I have a long list of things I want to do to my truck. The list is far from being done, but a guy can dream, right? Nothing wrong with that. Anyways, I want to put a turbo on eventually. I am aware that many turbos on Tacoma's are mounted under the truck, making it venerable, but I come from a family of welders, so rigging up a bolt on shield for the turbo and surrounding piping is something we can make happen in no time. Here's the discussion I want to start: where to find one, average price range, is it safe to be submerged in water, and do i need a tuner?

I can relocate the intake by running a hose up into my bed and into the tool box i will be getting soon. This will make for safer intake. However, I don't want to get it, take it to some water ( I will eventually, who wouldn't? It's a taco. They do well in deep water,) and royally fuck up everything from making it go under for a little bit and/or hitting massive puddles on the side of the road that I always go out of my way for because making a 15ft splash in a puddle that a full size Dodge is going around (not kidding, they went around it because they were scared. Made my taco look even better) is too damn fun to resist.

The reason I'm aiming for a turbo is because if I'm having fun with my taco, my engine is always between 3500-5000 RPM, so I don't need a lot of low end boost. high end is my target, because that screaming 4.0 is my hit of ecstasy. So, a turbocharger would fit my desires better than an S/C. Hell, maybe one day I'll rig up both:D

But for now, I want to plan out my turbo mod so i have plenty of time to plan so i dont blow something up or destroy my engine. Any help is appreciated and all comments welcome.

Interesting. How much cheaper is the turbo kit, if any?

Better find it. Best boost and power to dollar deal you will get for that price.

Coming from the guy with the turbo.
