It's morbid to even deem anything regarding drug addiction as fascinating; yet - it's incredibly eye opening to learn just how pervasive opiates have become within nearly every aspect of our society. Bottom line, this shit is pure evil even on it's molecular structure.

Unfortunately, it's becoming evermore prevalent within the workforce that I deal with. I always though that I was above being effected by it personally until this past winter. Addicts have no comprehension of the consequences of their actions on others, even if their own carelessness results in a major accident or death. I had a hell of a time convincing myself that - and it's something that I still struggle with rationalizing. Those that are heavily addicted don't even possess the typical logical reasoning that you or I (usually) enact in our daily lives... It's been replaced by the need to get high.

been hearing that addicts are taking huge amounts of Imodium a-d to knock the edge off. Pretty soon we'll have to sign for it like sudafed.

Yeah, that's been used as a way to stave off withdrawal by addicts for awhile, loperamide (Immodium) is actually an incredibly potent opiod, however it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier so it won't get you high or suppress the central nervous system (which is why it's sold over the counter). As such, it will help with some of the symptoms of withdrawal, and some people try taking it in huge doses to catch a buzz, which is dangerous for a few reasons (one of which is you'll probably be constipated for a month). If that gets more popular I'm sure they'll start regulating it. Just like how poppy seeds are almost all washed now prior to being sold for sale due to the increasing popularity of addicts buying them in massive quantities to brew poppy seed tea (containing morphine amonger other alkaloids).

Anyway, like I said on page one, I've been down this road on both sides of the street...it's incredible and heartbreaking to see how profoundly one's addiction can affect the lives of everyone around them. If anyone needs an ear, PM me.

Wow, I just read this thread for the first time; heartbreaking. I am sorry for your loss brother.

I too dealt with a similar experience. Throughout High School, I had a friend that was like a brother to me; living with us most of the time. We did everything together.

After high school we moved apart. I moved from Northern Cal to Las Vegas (2005). It was tuff leaving my brother but we kept in touch, talking daily for years until he got until he got into usung drugs, eventually selling. We slowly stopped talking every day but always kept in touch and were always best friends.

In 2011, I was at work when I got the call from his nephew (they were close in age). His nephew told me that my best pal, was found in the emergency room OD'd. Resuscitation was unsuccessful and he passed away.
Apparently someone dropped him off at the ER and took off. To this day we dont who dropped him off in that condition and then bailed.
Years later, still think about him everyday.

Glad to see you are doing well my friend, cheers.
