Yeah, I think i remember how I put mine in. If not I could always yank it out and snap some pictures along the way.
Let me look at that thread to reference. :)

Yes, I remember thinking that the split washer wasn't totally necessary. I don't think I put them in mine.
I think @G.T. may have have put them for spacing the ball out from the pillar.

I have one in the vent and I like it pretty much! Good height to look at it. Make it easy to talk on speaker phone too.

Lots of people can go without them, like the Doc says, I used them as a way to push the ball slightly further out to allow for greater articulation of the mounting arm.

Ahhh hahaha got it :p I wanted to get rid of it but it seems to be the better place lol only thing is that it cuts the A/C flow from this place and it is the one I want when it is getting too hot

Yeah, I lose air flow too. Another reason to get rid of it.

Velcro haha it works awesome. Just use a case with a belt clip you don't use.

Yep, it's what I use. I've got an otterbox on mine with the metal next to the phone. There's a lot of plastic/rubber between the magnet and the plate and I live on crappy roads. I have 2 magnets side by side on the vent to compensate for all that, works well. And it's easy to swap the magnets from truck to car.

I use a ram X grip, suctioned just above the 4 wheel shifter. Works pretty damn good. Falls off every once in a while (once every three weeks maybe), but that's to be expected with a suction cup. The surface of the console it is suctioned to isn't perfect, but I like to keep my phone low and out of site, instead of sticking it to glass.

    The Bed is stock...ish
My phone case came with a belt clip. I flip the sun visor down and clip the phone to the visor where it meets the headliner... Cheap and easy.
