Looking to install a hitch on the Tacoma as I did not get the factory tow package. Just wondering a lot of the aftermarket hitches for the Tacoma like the Curt one I am looking at getting is rated at 5000 lbs and 500lb tongue weight.

So how is the Tacoma with a tow package rated at around 6500lb towing. Is the receiver on the Tacoma with a tow package a heavier hitch then after market brands like Curt, Reese, etc?

What class hitch are you looking at?
The factory hitch is a class IV

    I'm guessing your truck is a 4.0?
Since you refer to the 6,500 lbs towing.

If so, and you are an Auto Trans. I'd look at adding the Trans Cooler if you don't have one.
I know the trucks with factory tow package have one. Not sure on the others.
