While I love my truck, merging onto the highway with the 4 cylinder purring under the hood really gives you some time to reflect on all of the poor choices you have made in life before you get up to speed. All it is really missing for me is some low/mid range torque.

Decided to pull the trigger on the ozboost kit as a baseline. In my opinion this is a good starter kit but very far from what I would consider complete.

Here is the turbo after being completely torn down, internals replaced, balanced, wastegate port ported, and coating.

Intercooler fully mounted. The grill fits perfectly over it and the hood latch works like factory.

Added an AEM fail-safe wideband gauge to the factory exhaust piping which I will be retaining as this will be a low boost application.

Next up is drilling and tapping the upper oil pan for the turbo oil return before the real fun begins....

My Dear Lord how these threads make me feel so horribly non-mechanically inclined! Great job!

Well, I was able to get some more done in between work, but getting close!!

Was able to tap the oil pan for the oil return and give it a nice clean shot towards the turbo.

Turbo installed. AC lines had to be gentle bent out of the way to make room.

This is what it "should" look like without the intercooler. I am going to get the truck running without it first to make sure I can battle off any check engine lights before attacking the pipe fabrication.

Installed the new DW1000 Fuel pressure regulator and redid the oil feed line for better clearance of the exhaust manifold. Truck drives great but I just need to figure out what platform to go with for tuning (MAP ECU, FIC, etc.)

Which size intercooler did you get and tube diameter?

Where did you balance, port, built your turbo?

I will be copying your build step by step, if you don't mind. Those black and white photos got me bonkers

I did the turbo work myself, I operate a turbo shop: http://www.theboostlab.com

I used a 31x12x3 intercooler, but beware you will need to make a vertical brace for the hood latch otherwise it will not close properly if you choose to go this route

It's still a journal bearing GT2871 - I just replaced the internals with OE Garrett parts and balanced it for peace of mind.

Ha! Awesome! I purchased my BW EFR 9180 Turbo from you guys a few years ago, for my Taco!

Being that you are in the business, you might have heard of URD. I believe that they have a plug n play piggyback of some sort for the 2TR. Don't quote me on that though.

Have any more of those 1/8 BSPT fittings? I'd buy a couple from you guys.

Ordered the MAP ECU 3 today, should have it next week. The patch harness was delayed by around 7 days but I may just skip that and wire directly to the factory harness. I haven't tuned a MAP ECU since it was on it's first version... so this should be interesting.

Which one exactly are you looking at? I have loads of fittings in stock

With this setup, as much as I could with a piggy back before pissing off the ECU too much. I did build a little big larger turbocharger for the truck after I get this running right... but I don't have an excuse good enough to justify going with a standalone since I bought the truck for a daily...... for my daily driver which ended up getting a built engine and huge turbo.

    Thank you!!

I ended up putting this bad boy together for the next stage of the project after I get it running good on the GT28 -

Drove the truck home from the shop today for the first time as I had no choice... have to haul alot of equipment there tomorrow for an event we are having and the truck drove without a single hiccup.

Depending on how much free time I have next week, I will start on the new intercooler piping fabrication and new intake as well.
