See if you can find a a chicken plant close by, sometimes they have sales to public every few months. I work at maintenance at one and we can get 40lbs of leg and thighs for $16.

Get stuff you can eat on crackers like 1/2 pound blocks of cheese, peanut butter, and potted meat. It's fast and cheap

Maybe make some tuna salad or egg salad and have sandwiches a few nights eggs are cheap too.

Crockpots are great, however my three favorite things are my rice cooker, grill, and electric timed steamer.

I go down the fruit/veggie isle and just go ape shit getting what looks good(Cantaloupe, peaches, grapes, pineapple, mangos, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, roma tomatoes, iceburg lettuce, sweet potatoes, beets, carrots) An 8 pack of boneless chicken thighs, a pair of steaks, cereal, milk, bread, eggs, bacon, can of mixed nuts (almond/cashew mix), block or bag of mild/sharp cheddar, smoked ham sandwich meat.

My bill is usually between $80-100.

Can make all kinds of meals from that.
Ham and cheese, BLT, Club, Ham lettuce tomato, Bacon egg and cheese, omelet, scrambled, fried eggs, cereal,
Snack on fruit and a handful of nuts throughout the day. It's hard to eat too much fruit. Get a melon baller and ball some cantaloupe, watermelon, honeydew and grab some once in awhile from the fridge.
I always have a bag of Calrose, medium grained rice to make sticky rice (I'm from Hawaii)

Freeze all the chicken. Pull two thighs out, put in a bag/bowl/etc and defrost with marinade of choice. Meanwhile, pot of rice is going(30 min, the longer it sits after done the stickier/the better). When you're ready to grill, throw veggies of choice in the steamer, set timer for 15min, go grill chicken, or if it's a steak night:

Must you limit yourself to a crock pot? You know the glaze is leaching lead into yer brain...

If you have the option to do it here is my suggestion...
Step one, get yourself a small grill such as the Weber Little Joe or Jumbo Joe.
Step two start grilling chicken breast, marinated strips of beef, mushrooms, asparagus, zucchini, etc.

Also, teach yourself to make guacamole, the best mole of all and its super healthy cheap and easy to make.

    Interesting thread.

I am mid 20s and single so I try to be cost-effective in figuring out meals. I used to spend $300 or so per month (basically 1 big shopping trip at the beginning and another small one half way through to replenish what I went through quickly) on groceries and go somewhere to get lunch about half of those days. The problem was I could buy very little for fresh vegetables and other perishables because they would go bad before I could use them.

So, I started spending ~$100/week on groceries and plan on this getting me through lunches as well. It works out better, since I can buy lunch meats, vegetables, bread etc. without it going bad.

I can pretty much stick to that dollar figure since I rarely go buy lunch now and going out for dinner happens once a month tops.

A vacuum sealer is a good investment. Use mine all the time . I bought it mainly for my wild game and fish, but it's great for dividing food into portions since buying food for one is a pain in the azz.

horn that plays "la cuka racha,"
I was a big fan of my foreman grill or similar devices. I'd cook up chicken breast and usually make a salad or throw a steak on there. It's quick and clean up is easy.

Trader Joe's also has this microwavable brown rice that's pretty good too. I'd use it to make a semi healthy chicken bowl with frozen veggies.

No, but apparently there is an "acceptable level of salmonella" that is allowed in canned cat food :puke:

Learned this on one of those hoarder shows about a crazy cat lady LOL...I couldn't stop watching it.
