hey guys, question about the 1st gen tacoma engine bay fuse box. so im needing an engine bay fuse box for my 2.7l 3rz motor swap into my 1980 pickup 4x4. only issue is I cant seem to find one exactly from the year of 98, I found a few on ebay that are from 01-04 but im not sure if the fuse boxes in the engine bay are the same. Im just needing to be able to run the motor as I am also getting the entire engine bay wiring harness. so having a factory fuse box will be awesome as it should be plug and play.

so are the fuse boxes the same for pretty much most of the 1st gen tacomas with the 2.7l 3rz?

this is the box I found that im looking at buying, I just dont want to make the mistake like I did with my transfer case and it not be the correct one. Im assuming so since it's out of a tacoma with the 2.7l, and all id need are the alternator, starter and EFI fuses/relays iirc. so it SHOULD work, I just want to make sure this is the correct fuse box

You may not really need a whole fuse box for what you are doing. The fuse box is set up for a Tacoma not a 1980 PU 4x4. But your 1980 fusebox is. Depending on your alt amp output you could upgrade that with a simple megafuse upgrade. I'd research the plug from your alt and see if those wires (lamp and ignition) are all you need to work with.

I've replaced my fusebox and it was a chore. Mine was busted up (from PO's wreck) and it shorted during bumps and shakes. I matched mine using the number on the cover of the box and year of truck. They were identical. I just had to spend about 3 hours of soldering and shrink tubing one wire at a time until I was done. Your back and eyes will hate you after.

I probably should have added that my 1980 has an entire new wiring harness from JEGS in it. I only need to get the motor running. Plug and play would be awesome to have with the engine bay fuse box, which is why I was asking about it

Like I said that fuse box is labeled for a different truck and it's accessories but if you want to use it you can. Some of the fuses might be a different amperage than what your current truck may call for but if that doesn't bother you, go for it.

I understand it's different, but it's not going to be tied into the harness that's in there, it'll be it's own separate fuse box that power is ran to just to run the motor. I'm just wondering if all the fuse boxes for the 2.7 3rz are all the same through the 1st gen tacoma years at least for the motor to get it to run
