    Is this an auto? I wouldn't use the tranny for engine braking if you mean you're downshifting manually. That's a good way to fry your torque converter. That trailer is light. Just give yourself some extra distance and use the brakes. Much cheaper replacing brake pads than pulling your tranny.

    Yes its an auto...im not downshifting manualy...I just leave it in 4th on roads that are 50mph and under.
