Just keep throwin' money at it.

I did this in my 1999 Tacoma. Worked great. I tired to use the same setup in my 2011, and the GPS was too close to the steering wheel. I think I am going to get the double arm http://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Dou...rue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER to solve this.

I thought it would be to close too and bought the articulating arm and after messing around with how the regular was pointed, I got it far enough away to work. Haven't even used the articulating arm for anything yet. If I ran the gopro off of the mount I would need the articulating arm tho. I bought the Xgrip, articulating arm, go pro mount & the cradle for the tom tom along with the ball mount & regular arm.

Your grab handles are shaped a little bit differently than my 04. I never knew there was a difference. I don't see why it wouldn't work though. The only thing holding me back from doing this is the fact that 1) I'm right handed and to change a song it would be weird and 2) sometimes my girl needs access to my phone when I'm driving

Great How-To. Went with the different middle part and did the Articulating arm instead of the straight one. Gave me a little bit more flexibility in where I positioned the phone at.

    Great thread @G.T.

I saw this mod back in 2010, told myself I was going to do it... But never followed through.

Over the last week, I decided to take a different route.

Mount directly to the dash. Has none of the visibility issues, or proximity to steering wheel concerns.

Just posting it here as an alternative idea for those that might read through the entire thread.

What phone mount do you have? I think I had the exact same on in my previous car but with the suction cup, going to have to check and see as the RAM mount is nice, just not as easy to put the phone in and out.

You're right. It's an iOttie Smart Tap modified for Ram. I also have a Ram claw cradle thing which I like a lot. Here is a pic.

It's classified as super secure, NASA approved.

What was needed to modify the iOttie to work with Ram?

    What he said?

I have an iOttie just in a junk drawer that I would like to use for easy in and out of the phone.

I used (2) half inch #10 screws for a diamond mount. Pics in my build thread.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
A 40mm M6 works but it is a bit thread short and the ball is awfully sunk into the hole... Does anyone have any pics of the nuts used to make the ball sit a bit farther out?

Even kind of hacked together this Ram mount is the best cell phone option by far. I've researched long and hard to find a mount I like and I'm absolutely in love with this thing. I ran 60mph through rough Barstow sand and it didn't even flinch.

This was the very first thing I did to my gen 2

I love Rammounts and have bases in both my kayaks and patrol car so adding to my truck just made sense...not having to drill is even better
