What are your impressions of the kit and its performance?

A lot of guys have considered this upgrade but there not been hardly any first hand experience to draw from.

I'd love to hear as much about it as you're willing to share!

It's far from being a "complete" kit. If you are not mechanical inclined I would steer away from this as this was designed for a right hand drive hilux so it's not necessarily a "bolt on" kit. I replaced alot of the components that they included including the turbocharger internals.

I have the truck up and running but need to decide what I want to do for tuning.

Do have to run a differnt ecu? Or is there a "piggyback" unit that works in conjunction with the oem computer?

Any specifics on what had change because of the right hand drive difference? The most obvious thing I noticed was the brake booster but on a US truck it should give even more clearance for the turbine. The engine itself should be identical shouldn't it, regardless of drive side?

Do you still need a tune with this turbo kit? I thought Ozboost was just plug and play...wishful thinking? I'm interested...but want a local SoCal tuner. Seems all you guys are in FL or Houston.

Well, if you like your truck running lean under only 5PSI (14+AFR)... sure. But some closed loop tuning would definitely be suggested. I would not recommend this kit be installed without a piggyback of some sort.

I have a build thread going showing a few of the details along the build. I'll post my findings once I get it all 100%. So far I am happy with it and see a lot of potential.

Some notes for anyone looking to buy this kit:

    • Have the turbocharger gone over by a professional unless you replace it with a genuine Garrett GT28.
    • This kit was designed for the right hand drive Hilux which has different placement of AC lines, you WILL have to bend your lines out of the way
    • The fuel pressure regulator included in the kit is absolute junk, throw it away.
    • Throw the boost gauge away too.
    • The Mass airflow sensor on the hilux is not the same as the USDM 4 cylinder. You will need a Hitachi slot type MAF adapter to get this to work.
    • While you are at the trash go ahead and throw the supplied air filter away as well.
    • Highly recommend welding an O2 bung onto your downpipe or factory exhaust, no clue why they didn't include this on the downpipe already.
    • Their supplied instructions are VERY vague (black and white photo copies with permanent marker notes).
After I am done with my setup I may put together a "kit" to go along with theirs to complete it for the US market.

Would be good if you can contact them about adding the O2 bung onto the downpipe...it's something they fab already. Would be great if they adjusted the kit for LH drive Tacos and you be the dealer or one making a US kit version with the appropriate tune. I think talking with someone on here...a chinese turbo that's balanced might still be a good option versus the GT28 since it's more money. Chinese turbos are a bit risky, but if they are QC (quality controlled) and balanced it should work just as well from what I read.

For turbos, nothing less than a Precision. Since it is "quality Chinese."

@KirkRio , do you have the OEM header? I am curious if you could post a picture of the flange's mating surface? The flange which bolts to the head.

If it is the same as the 3rz flange, then there is a solution to just purchase the turbo header.

Here's a pic of a 2tr exhaust manifold gasket. The side facing the viewer is the manifold side.

Just ordered the kit! Very excited to get it. And sure I'll put some up. It's an 05 with a full cage in cab that ties into bed cage for 2.5 x 18" fox triple bypass and Deaver leaf springs. Front has a total chaos ucas and 10" icon coilovers. Hopefully I'll be getting their long travel kit soon! Lots of other things too. Fiberglass fenders and besides racing seats two light bars. And soon a turbocharger! Haha
