Truck just started doing this in the last week. Seems to happen about once a day. Only change has been the truck sat for 2 weeks recently while I was out of town, I'm not sure if there is any relation there. Just over 2000miles on the truck at this point. I will have it documented as soon as I get a chance.

I just got mine back from the dealer. I was told they are aware of the issue but they haven't been able to determine the cause of the problem to provide a fix.

It is great to know that Toyota has not found a cure for this crap. Mine did it the first time at around 2900 miles. Made a 250 mile road trip last week. No issues. Filled up and was at around 300 on trip meter. Got off work yesterday. Started truck and noticed dash was showing mph. It did it again with 3600 miles on truck. Really bites because was trying to get down near empty to see how many combined hwy/city miles could get from a full tank. This is the 4th issue I will address on my 5k service visit. If they do not resolve all of my issues my truck is going to be replaced with either a pre-2016 Tacoma or a new Ford Ranger if they are available yet. I had a trouble free 2014 F150 V8 with 9,995 miles and a trouble free 2008 Taco V6 Prerunner with 60,700 miles that I sold to buy this truck Jan 2nd and have been regretting my decision for the past 2 months. What happened to the quality Toyota of previous years. Even my old 2000 4 banger Prerunner with 180k miles is still rolling trouble free. The sad thing is that this was reported by the op back in November. That is a long time to have an issue not yet resolved.

I've been lucky I guess and have only had it happen twice in 15k miles. I've tracked all my mileage in fuelly and with this reset issue, I'm glad I have been. I had 4 issues I took mine in for as well (hood, rear bumper, resetting trip, transmission issues). Never did anything to my 2005 outside of tires and oil changes.

They told me they are aware of this issue but haven't been able to narrow down the root cause (especially difficult since its intermittent and not easily reproducible).

Just happened again. Filled up and reset it at gas station 2 miles from home. Left the house a few minutes ago and both meters say 1.0 mile. Should say 3 or 3.5. Just gonna quit using it until it goes in for 5k service.

Well, I feel for ya, I really do. You've probably been aware of this gremlin, and hoping with the time and miles under your belt, you were clean.
Then, Wham-0. Bit. Sorry you're in the pool now.
I'll start my repair endeavors soon as I'm at roughly 4200 total miles with an automatic, and a A/B trip meter which has reset itself either 12 or 13 times since new. I am on record with Toyota and a Case number, and have contacted the service department where I purchased the truck.
So I'll call Toyota Corp again soon, and maybe they will make a recommendation as to which of 3 dealer/service shops I should preference. I'd like to get the tranny checked too.
Anyway, good luck with your truck and how ever you elect to deal with the bug. From the few I have heard that have had the "fix" done, I have not heard anyone say that what was done did NOT fix it. 15-of-the-rarest-and-most-mind-blowing-photographs-in-history-2.jpg

CRAP! Well I'll be waiting for this to happen. Bought the truck in December 2015 (mfg date: 11/15 TX). So far the only issue I have had (currently at 4700 miles) is the passenger's side rear door seal which was replaced and now is at it should be. Even though I didn't buy the truck from the dealer that did the replacement, they have been great (actually over and above great). The tech whom I showed the original seal to told me that it was not right and that a replacement unit would be ordered immediately. That is after another dealer (Montgomery, AL) told me the seal was (Toyota speak) "normal." The tech also checked the transmission fluid level (1 qt. low) and the differential at the time he replaced the seal. The only inconvenience was having to leave the truck overnight while the transmission fluid reach a certain temp (?). Other than those minor issues, my truck SR5 DCSB V6 has been nothing more than a pleasant experience to own and drive. I have had none of the issues reported by others on the forum such as vibrating hood, erratic shifting, steering wheel buzz, etc. What worries me now is that some say the issue of random resets didn't occur until several thousand miles are on the clock. I believe the tech that did the work on my truck is a Diagnostic Certified Technician as mentioned in a previous post. I have copied some of these posts in case the issue occurs with me. Fortunately the tech told me he follows TW and therefore is probably aware of the reset problem some are having. I would definitely not like to lose the A-B trip settings. I keep my display on the avg. mpg/Trip A screen 90% of the time. I reset the miles on both A-B with every fill-up and sometimes use B as a total trip counter. So far no problems but , as one post stated, it appears to be a problem with the Combo Meter put in trucks mfg. before January 2016, and it could happen at any time. One post denoted his reset once at 2900 miles and again at 14,000 miles. So it appears we with build dates prior to 1/16 could have the issue pop up at any time. I wonder what percentage of all buyers are experiencing this problem.
    Again, CRAP:annoyed:

Mine was built in February 2016 and I have experienced the reset on at least 5 occasions to date. Argh! Otherwise everything else seems great.

So far, just a Hard Hat tonneau cover. Looking for mud guards and nerf boards.
Mine reset sometime over the weekend. Friday evening it was ok and then this morning, it read 0.0.

Well, scratch the theory that build dates before Jan. 16 were the ones affected...

I rent cars periodically from Enterprise (not trying to plug them but they are the only game in town). I have rented many Corollas, Elantras, Sentras, etc. and never once had this problem with their "on board" control panels. Toyota is big on using similar parts/components across their many platforms. I would assume the Combo Meter in the Tacoma is very similar to the ones in the Corolla with the exception of the startup screen. On my Tacoma the Avg. MPG resets after every fill-up but I manually reset the A/B trip counter at that time. I sometimes leave B to continue if I want to determine a total trip mileage. I always do a complete fill-up when I get gas. Are any of these resets happening after only partial fill-up? Hell, I'm just musing and don't have a f**king clue why it is happening to some and I assume not to others. Like I posted earlier, it hasn't happen to me yet after 5 months and almost 5K on the clock. But, with my luck, it will reset tomorrow!

Addendum: Just read a post that said his reset for the first time at 5K. Well, I have 375 miles to go before 5K!

I am just about 3,000 total miles. Mine reset while sitting in the garage. I had not filled gas tank either fully or partially. Weird.

Add me to the list. Mine reset today for the first time at 1,760 miles. No fill up ... just got in to to go somewhere, and the trip meters and fuel economy were at zero. It still showed correct "miles to empty".

It happened to me again... This is the 3rd time..... There was only a 1/4 tank left when it reset itself. Called the dealer again and as expected they asked to make a service appt to have it looked at. I told the dealer I've already had the truck in twice before for the same exact issue and nothing was done since they couldn't duplicate the issue. Oh well... I have had a case open with Toyota Corp on this since January 2016....

Sure hope people experiencing this problem are reporting it to Toyota Customer Experience Center at 800-331-4331. Unless they get a good number of cases, they will never address it for a fix.

Dropped mine off today. New speedometer cluster being installed tomorrow. Mine reset last week with only 50 miles on the trip meter. I noticed mine always does it when I start the truck. Doesn't matter how many miles are on it. This is the final issue on my list. All else fixed. Built 12/15. Purchased 1/2/16. Started the reset problem around 3000 miles. Has 5500 on it now. Had to push it through Corporate. Dealer simply was unaware of the issue. Being done at First Team Toyota in Chesapeake VA. Once my issues went to Corporate they were extremely nice and accommodating. Best advice is copy all of our posts that have clusters replaced. Then email to Corporate. They are certainly aware of this issue.

My truck has 22K miles. It's happened four times at very random intervals (9k, 11k, 21500 and 21550). Always at a restart (i.e. Not while driving). The 21500 mile reset was really annoying as I was trying to log total mpg on a 2 way cross country trip. Had averaged 22.4 mpg from California to Connecticut and back with a big load inside and on the roof. Unfortunately it reset as I started climbing the Rockies westbound and hasn't quite recovered the mpg yet. Thanks for the tips and I'll hope Toyota has a fix when I bring it in for my 25K service ... along with the transmission TSB for cruise control 4-5 shift. No other problems! Very happy with this truck in everything from DC rush hour to Moab trails.
