Doing my brakes today because they are noisy and annoying(first brake job). I'm guessing the PO put semi-Metalics in. Anyway, the pads I just pulled out of my passenger side were wearing unevenly is this an indication of the Pistons not working on one side? Also have a lip on the rotor. Do I need to rebuild/buy new calipers or is there something I can do about this today? Thanks!image.jpg image.jpg image.jpgimage.jpg

Either those are two different types of pads or the calipers are messed up. Could also be warped rotors.

My work has fleet of over 100 pool vehicles and have seen this many times. Turn the rotors and make sure pins and sliders are lubed. This can be caused by caliper not moving freely on spindle where it mounts. Pistons in calipers more prone to sticking as they move out with pad wear. I am just giving the generics as I am not there to inspect.

Also when pushing pistons back in it would be good idea to open bleeder, instead of pushing crappy fluid back into system.

Thanks for the reply. Already pushed the Pistons back unfortunately. I'm putting new rotors on as well. When you describe the pins and sliders are those the pins I pulled out for caliper/rotor removal and if so what are and how do I lube the sliders?

There are no sliders on these calipers. They are fixed to the spindle and dont move. The pins are the ones that go through the pads. Lube them with anti-seize or proper "brake anti-seize/lube"

I haven't had to do brakes on my Tacoma so I did not know what the movement point was, just saying whatever allows pad to move needed to be free. Thanks and now I know.

Id say if you have more the 2 mm of difference on the pads then its abnormal

I just did my front brakes a couple days ago, and my old stuff looks similar to your stuff... toasted, warped rotors and the PO of my truck must've bought the cheapest set of pads he could find on ebay. If the pistons traveled back easily and evenly, I wouldn't worry about calipers. I put in NAPA premium pads and rotors, new anti-rattle clips, shined up the pad retaining pins, and couldn't be happier.
