Why is it that my front brakes seem too sensitive? I converted to Tundra brakes a couple of years ago and everything was great. Now the brakes seem too touchy and lock up quite a bit. The pads and rotors are fine. I'm running BFG AT 265 x 75 tires and they're about a year old.

I'd bleed them and put in fresh fluid and see what happens.

When were the slider pins last serviced? You may not be getting full release, thus the calipers grab a bit sooner.

When you say 'lock up', do you mean ABS activates?

Do pre-runners have a LSPV in the back? If so, then you can adjust that to apply more braking force to the rear.

I don't have ABS. How do I adjust the LSPV?

The LSPV (Load Sensing Proportioning Valve) is a hydraulic valve attached to the frame. A horizontal (roughly) rod attached to it, goes up and down with the axle movement, to control the hydraulic pressure to the rear brake cylinders.

More braking force goes to the rear brakes when more weight is added to the bed (which causes springs to compress and the axles get closer to the frame).

This is a photo of the adjuster.

Note the small bracket attached to the frame with 2 bolts.
Note the verticle rod attached to it (threaded on top with 2 adjusting nuts).
Mine is currently adjusted to raise the horizontal rod as much as it can (increasing force to the rear brakes).

Got it. Made everything better. I read in another thread somewhere about if you lift you need to raise that part proportionate to your lift. I lifted 2". So I need to raise the accurator by 2". Marlin Crawler has a bracket.

If you have a vise, and a drill, you could make your own bracket :D

I had the same problem on a 1993 Pickup. Part of the problem was the rear shoes wouldn't self adjust. Maybe I wasn't backing up enough ?
Everything was lubed . I even replaced the star wheels.

I had no idea about the BPV. Nobody even mentioned it when you lift even 2". Toytec...Wheelers.. noone. Live and learn. I hope this thread can help someone with a similar situation.
