Thank u cle for the only logical answer. I had asked all these so called know it alls a simple que,and no answer. Simply asked if there is any kind of oil our fluid that runs threw the front end,our front driveline. They said no im not fourwheel drive. Come to find out there is,its called power stering FLUID duh. Blew a seal and that is where metal shavings and fluid was coming from. Just wish i read your advice sooner.

Hmm. If you would have actually looked before you posted this thread.....you would have found the problem. The smart ass answers are justified by YOU not taking the time to LOOK for the problem and giving shady answers to questions. Next time....take the little step of diagnosing a problem prior to posting and describing in detail of what you found. Oil and metal shaving on the front skid plate can be from many things as you have found out.

POWER STEERING FLUID?!? Make sure you put in the right stuff! You can read right? Maybe not very well judging by your responses or lack there of. Good luck replacing that rack:rolleyes:

You keep saying front end as if you are 4wd. Saying oil that lubricates the front end...? The motor has oil, the power steering uses ATF...and the tranny has oil...no gear oil up front....you should post pics because it is clear you are confused.

Did you verify that it was a ps seal? Or are you just going with the first thing that's suggested??.

Previous post said GEAR OIL. Now you say oil? But apparently it's POWER STEERING FLUID...even though our trucks don't use that. So which is it then.

are there signs of leaks on the rack? if you have that much residual oil on the skid, you should be able to spot any wet spots from the source. my steering rack didn't fail until 210,000 miles.

If any amount of fluid was lost from ps system it would show on dipstick or you probably wouldn't have functioning power steering. If your auto there lines running to and from radiator with atf in them.

You should be able to tell the difference if its atf, engine oil, or gear oil by color, viscosity, and smell.
