    I have a 01 2.7 liter 4x4. Recently my check engine light came on, I put it on a computer and it said to replace egr valve. Well I replaced the egr valve with a brand new one. I also disconnected my negative ground on battery to turn check engine light off. About 7 days later my check engine light came back on, so I put it on a computer and again it said replace egr valve. Anyone ever have this same problem, if so what did you do?

    What was the actual code?

    I doubt the computer said "replace the EGR valve". It just points you to the problem area. The next step should be to check the EGR system as outlined in the repair manual, step by step to see what's wrong.

    I didn't see the actual code number. I carried my truck to auto zone and had them hook up a computer. They showed me the screen and it just said replace egr valve. This time autozone turned off my check engine light with their computer for me, I'm now waiting to see if check engine light comes back on

    Hmm...I don't think the trucks ECU tells you or autozone exactly what to replace, makes me wonder if that's a little sales ploy on their part...

    Ive also heard with parts like this it's best to stick with OEM parts, anything else can be temperamental. See if they can give you the exact code so you can look it up here and see what others have done, that's what I did to help solve my PO171 code.

    I have the same problem .2001 Tacoma ,last year my mechanic and I replaced the EGR valve after the code showed up, the light stayed off just long enough to cycle for emissions and then came back on and it stayed on this past year. I just had my truck inspected again,same issue they could only get the light to go off long enough to run emissions.( This is after cleaning the throttle body which someone suggested, but it only kept the light off for a day ...if that had any connection at all )Truck seems to stutter a little bit when idling but otherwise runs great. I just want that stupid light off I hate looking at it. If anyone solves this problem please post thank you

    My similar issue turned out to be the EGR temp sensor. The CPU might be getting a false reading from it. Instead of getting a new one (actually for a P0401 code), I removed/cleaned/replaced the sensor. CEL never came back.

    :rofl:
    First check all vacuum lines.if good than
    Check EGR VSV(vacuum switching valve). Common on toyotas for going bad.
    EGR valves themselves rarely go bad other than getting carbon on seat causing to stay open. Did you also check ports when you removed valve? Could also be clogged of carbon
    :thumbsup:

    VSV = Vacuum Switching Valve.

    It's how the computer prevents the EGR valve from opening until the engine is warm. If it's not working the EGR valve will not open. It's hidden underneath the intake.

    Tacogary, the vsv is for sure the problem, do a google search for where it’s at, very cheap part, but hard to get to. Learn from me, spent a lot of money to realize such a simple fix, wished I’d checked it first
