    WHAT?

Not the excuse my salesman, God bless his little heart, gave me.

In Quicksand? Sport or TRD Off-Road? They have a Sport with the Sunroof, but my heart belongs to TRD Off-Road.

Don't ask why, even I'm not sure, other than maybe towing.

    GRINNNNNNing from ear to ear,
    Coosa

Looks like she is paying full MSRP, plus taxes, doc fees, etc. I bought mine from the same dealer in October and paid $1000 over invoice plus doc fees, etc. And that was for an order, not one they already had in stock. OP, if you havent signed papers already, I would try for a better deal

Enjoy your truck! The price sounds high, but you are getting almost everything you want.... and the short bed is going to be a little nicer for day to day driving.

I think this is one of the instances that the op just wants what she wants and doesn't really care about the price. I can understand how that might be in your retirement years to just get what you want.

As a side note have them check your transmission fluid level before you take possession. I'm sure you've seen the posts on here about the 3rd gen being low on fluid from the factory. I hope you enjoy your truck. Post some pictures when you get it.

The Oliver is one of the best out there but you're going to miss allot of camp time waiting for it and it's extremely expensive. But hey it's only money right? Enjoy the good life you earned it.

I paid FULL PRICE ........ and there was another guy test driving MY truck while I was putting a deposit down on on her. I wasn't haggling over a couple thousand dollars and waiting months or even not getting the Tacoma I wanted [which I could have locally] ... She's perfect. She has all the bells and whistles. Moon roof, cross traffic sensors, back up camera. They even made sure all the fluid levels were correct. I had a running board installed. I'm getting seat "protectors" added and a rubber mat for the truck bed, locally.

    I am one happy camper.

Actually, I ended up with a 2004 Aliner Sportliner with NO bells, whistles, wet bath, heater, air conditioner, microwave, or ice-chest. But it's 750 pounds and perfect set up for campground camping.

If I could figure out how to post a photo from my album, I would.

If there wasn't someone else ready to sign on the bottom line, I'd have haggled a little. But they had a buyer at the same price. I got there first.

I am happy ... besides, I'm paying it off, no penalty early next year.

I think the only differences in the packages would be the JBL stereo. The $2,330 package should have everything else you wanted.

The local Toyota dealer had the lower end package on the same Quicksand TRD 4x4 Off-road ... no moonroof, sensors or camera. They were THAT important and the "deal breaker" for me. I'm happy, Bill Penney Toyota is happy, my salesman, Vernon Mason got his points. You know, Bill Penney pays straight salary, not commission, so if you're thinking "she got taken" -- I'm thinking "I got what I wanted, I was able to drive away happy [no, not happy, ecstatic], my granddaughter got my 2011 Corolla for work and college, and I have no regrets." I'm coming into enough money to pay her off early next year, so I'll be paying maybe 9 to 10 months of payments, and Toyota Financial gets their interest money. In my feeble mind, it's "capitalism at its best." No one feels "cheated" and I can return to the dealership with my head held high and know that they don't just "appreciate my business and goodbye" but they "appreciate my business and welcome my return," even if just to visit.

-- My daughter sold cars about 15-17 years ago ... she made commission ... she worked with the customer for three or four hours ... and earned $600 on that sale ... she learned a lot and shared a lot with me ... When she went with me to purchase the Corolla in 2011, we 'haggled' over getting the Auto Loan, but not over the price. She knew/knows what goes on behind the scenes at a dealership. If I were buying USED from a Private Seller or from one of those "Used Car Dealerships" that pop up on street corners, I'd be using all the websites I could locate to find out how much the car was "really" worth and doing some haggling to get a "good" price [so I'd have money left to make repairs]. But I do not work that way. My Dad didn't either. He used the same salesman for every car he purchased [approximately 6 years between cars, iirc, maybe 8 once], and he paid MSRP. He paid cash, which I could have done had I waited until next year. But everything fell into place and I didn't want to spend another winter "snowed in" without a 4x4.

I sincerely appreciate those who are happy for me whether I paid "too much" by their estimation or not.

Let me tell you a true story [well, two] ... an acquaintance, now deceased, bought a couple of year old used cars using the internet. He found what he was looking for at "his" price [more flexible than I when it came to bells and whistles] on both occasions. For the first car, a 2009 model, purchased in 2010, he drove three hours in order to save $600 ... not being as many of you are [and I say that with admiration because I only know enough to know to look into the engine to make sure it's there] [okay, I know a bit more than that, checking fluids and such], he didn't know anything about cars or engines or how to put a magnet on the car to see if it'd been bondoed/repaired. So he haggled to get an even lower price and walked away with what he bragged was "the deal of the century." ...... Most of you know what's coming next in this true tale. He paid cash, got the paperwork, got it all titled, etc. And about 60 days later ... had to replace some engine parts, repair other parts and noticed the bumpers colors 'didn't quite match' the paint and one headlamp cover was "cleaner" [clearer] than the other. Well, of course, his pride would not allow him to confess that he could have had a brand new car for what he ended up paying in repairs the first year he had the car. He'd bragged about that "deal of the century" to too many people. It was only because I was picking him up at the repair shop that he got to talking about what happened ... and swearing me to secrecy ... well, he's gone now, so I can share.

Another true tale from same man ... 3 years ago, his wife bought a used Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi ... to pull a horse trailer ... 4 year old vehicle with 3000 miles on it, they're thinking "low mileage is best" ... and you're thinking ... low mileage means the car's not even broken in -- hoses were rotted, tires had dry rot, and for whatever reason, transmission had to be rebuilt, too. And the truck was out of alignment. Another "deal of the century" ... IF you're a "car/truck" person and know what you're looking for to be sure the vehicle is in good condition ... I admire you ... In my younger days, living in Alabama, I did have friends who could pick the best of the best used cars from those corner car lots ... [I do know that many of those cars came from the Auto Auction and there's a reason they ended up at the Auction, usually mechanical. However, I know that some older year cars were 'trade-ins' and the dealership just wanted to get them off their property. If you can spot the well taken care of "former trade-in" you can pick up a car that will run for hundreds of thousands of miles with few repairs. I've known men who had that gift to discover which was which. I'm not gifted that way, that's one reason, I buy new.]

May I tell you a tale on myself ... I was in my 30's and wanted a different car ... one with air conditioning ... so on advice of my car-knowledgeable friends was told to take a piece of plastic to lay on so that I could scoot under the engine of any car I was interested in to see if there were any fluid leaks. Used cars usually have pristine engines under the hood ... but it's what you see when you look up at the bottom of the engine from the ground that tells the story of that engine. So, I go from dealership to dealership [all lined up in a row on "Southern Boulevard"], salesmen come out to greet me, I locate a vehicle, we inspect, I pull out my little piece of 'tarp' and scoot under the engine and look up. "Sir, did you notice there's fluid leaking from these hoses, here ... and here?" ........ To make a long story shorter, by the time I arrived at the 4th car dealership on that stretch of road, not one salesman would come near me ... my reputation had spread that quickly.

I hope I've made your day a little more enjoyable and maybe given some of you insight into why "I buy new" and "I don't mind paying MSRP" ...

Okay, now I need to go read my manual so I can figure out how to use SiriusXM and the 4x4 feature.

I totally, awesomely, arrogantly, proudly, joyfully, love my Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 off road, double cab, shortbed, with moonroof.
Crepe Myrtle Suzette aka "Myrtle" is "Tan on the outside, Muscle under the hood, and has a Quicksand personality."

Congrats on the truck once again.

Appreciate you taking the time to share stories.

The key part of any deal or negotiation is that both parties are happy. You are happy with what you paid. Dealership is happy with what they sold it. End of story. You don't have to justify your purchase or price to anyone on the internet.

Whether you are 21, 31, 41, or 51, or 71, doesn't matter. We don't know when it is our last day on the earth.

My mom sacrificed and drove used cars all her life. After we all went to grad school, she saved money and wanted to buy a convertible. SL65 AMG. She ordered the car. Waited. Three days after delivery, she passed away.

That car is sitting in my dad's garage under a cover, with 136 miles on it. It is the only new car and new convertible my mom ever had/wanted. To her SL symbolized what she saw in the movies and the stars driving in the 60s/70s/80s....

However, she never got to enjoy it....

    Enjoy the truck.
