I'm doing an Olympic Triathlon this Saturday at Half Moon Lake - close to Sherwood Park. Anyone ever been to that Lake before? What's it like? Decently clean? Cold.....warm?

In case anyone didn't notice the huge surge in gas prices there is an upcoming shortage you should be aware of. Basically PetroCanada will be a bit short this month due to the fires and it could cause some headaches. Gas is up 10 cents here and running low at the stations. It might be a good idea to fill when you can.

I have seen some Petro-Can and 7/11 stations in Calgary completely shut down. They are no longer selling gas.

A colleague of mine at work who used to work for Suncor (they were high in the organization) warned this was going to happen last Thursday. That afternoon, got yhe warning of rising prices on gas buddy, and gas was up 10 cents.

Any recommendations for a mechanic to install suspension in South AB?
Specifically medium or long travel with all the goodies.. Looking at king or icon and want to make sure there's an honest tech with a brain and skills.
In Lethbridge we have VERY few options if any and no way am I having a dealer touch my truck.
Would rather not have to travel to Calgary but if thats the only option.

    Thanks!!

I've used Prime Auto in Taber. They have a ticketed mechanic and all they do is basically aftermarket work. Make sure you get a quote and they stick with it though. They have been know to get expensive quick. Make sure you talk to Sheldon for a quote. He's the owner/manager. That's about the only local option I'd trust.

If I were you I'd buy all of the parts myself and then have them do the install. Otherwise drive to Calgary and have either Cochrane Toyota or The Gear Shop do the work and order your parts from them too. One is a dealership that does tons of mods and stands behind it, the other is an independent shop that does mostly Toyota mods. I prefer Cochrane since they are a little easier to work with because they're bigger but if you're willing to wait the GS has a great reputation. Whatever you do don't let Lethbridge Toyota touch it! They've always come in twice as high as anyone else and they will not back their own work with aftermarket parts. Your fear is correct with them. Good people but there are a few lemons in the pile there.

Also once your done check out untitledoffroad.com and the southern alberta offroad groups. Those are two great groups to start wheeling with overall. Of course they have their own issues to but at least they follow good trail ethics.

    I was hoping you'd respond!
Thanks for the info. I'd be very hard pressed to head East.. lol
Love the guys at Lethbridge Toyota but it goes against my beliefs to build a vehicle at a dealership..
My go to guy has always been Gord at Toyotech, great guy and an ex Toyota mechanic, he's been there for me with all my Lexus.
He lives a few houses from me and has a nicely built silverado and his sons 4runner.

I'll definitely check out your other recommendations!!

    Thanks Sterdog!

Yeah I've never heard of Toyo Tech but that's not surprising. I rarely go looking for a shop unless I need something done I can't do myself lol. If they do good work why not just grab everything you need direct to the US border or from a Calgary shop then have them do it? You could even have 4WheelParts ship to your door...

I've just either had a really great experience with Lethbridge Toyota or a really shitty one. They don't seem to do in between lol. I'd buy another truck from them for sure but I wouldn't let them touch it after that.

Cochrane Toyota, while they are a dealer, has probably the best prices for a local pickup spot with a parts guy that knows his Tacoma shit and can pass on excellent recommendations. Beyond that I should also mention 4wheelparts.ca but they are totally useless when it comes to getting the right parts ordered for your truck so if you order from there do research on here then use those part numbers in the search bar. Order it to your door in CAD and you're done.

Cool man! Ya, no mechanic myself but i got the skills if i have a good youtube video.. lol Not taking chances tho.
I was definitely gonna order all my own parts and have a pro do the work. Just getting all my ducks in a row.

Ive taken note of Cochrane Yota for parts knowledge and the untitledoffroad group looks like a good crew.
    Thanks again!

A friend of mine just started a new shop a lot like prime in Taber. You could check them out. He has decked out some work trucks for some rig pigs as well as command starts and stuff. It's in the old trim line shop on 3rd ave. Just a suggestion. @LEXICON , @Sterdog

The only problem with guys like Prime Auto, Trimline, CapIt, and others like them is that they get their coilovers through a 3rd party. If there is a warranty issue it has to be approved by that third party dealer and that takes time which sucks. If you deal direct, from Cochrane Toyota, or from the Gear Shop there is no wait on 3rd party approval for warranty.

Plus I hate how Fox let's companies re-brand their shocks. I don't need BDS all over my coilovers thank you very much lol.

I saw the change in ownership. Hope they're better with custome service than trim line was... I have major trust issues with these businesses.

As for ordering all my parts, I feel contacting king, icon etc. And placing order by part numbers from the source would be the best way as you stated Sterdog and ship to the border.

Talk to CW Alignment in Lethbridge.

I had them do a lift for me in November and it went well.
They have done taco lifts for two buddies of mine which also went well.

In all cases we purchased our parts out of the states and just had them do the install

Ya CW Alignment is good. The guy is a little grumpy but does fine work. He insists he doesn't install 'lift kits' but he will install anything you bring him. He's done a bunch of taco lifts by now, so he's pretty familiar with them. His cost is reasonable too.

    I'll check em' out.
I'm tempted to do it myself.
I have the skills, just need to pickup a few tools.
It'll offset the high exchange cost that makes modding so tough up here..
