I've read great things about your BF wax over on AG. Detailers are a passionate bunch! :)
Personally, I like hearing anything people are willing to share about products I don't know about or haven't used- so thanks for sharing and please don't hesitate to do so in the future.

What evidence do you have to counter it? Other than the fact it lasts longer than a wax. Easier to use and requires a ton less effort. 6 months protection in about 5 minutes with Opti-seal.

Gloss-Coat is advertised up to 3 years. I have 4 vehicles that have been coated. 3 with 6 months on the coating. One thing I will say for the product is that it eliminates etching from bird shit. No sealant or wax I have tried has ever done that ( products include Mothers Carnuba wax, Adams Americana, Meguairs NXT, Klasse AIO, Adams Machine super sealant, Adams Paint Sealant, Adams Buttery Wax, Collinite 845, Wolfgang Fuzion....all I can remember for now) I have thrown several of these away.

My wife has a 2016 white 4Runner that we have taken on vacation. It was covered with bugs after the 800 mile trip. After first rain storm 95% of the bugs had been washed off. Try that with a wax. Coatings ARE superior to wax.

The main difference in this thread is what some are calling detailing versus what others call detailing. I am looking at it from a paint correcting/side business. Where a lot on here are looking for something that they do every once in a while and looking for a big box product. Not caring about swirls looking for cheapest product regardless if it is the right product... Case in point microfiber towels. Hell 90% on here think 303 and Collinite are the end all and be all (and that's fine) but understand there are superior products out there.

I'm not the guy in here saying a product is 99% better then what was mentioned. I simply asked you what evidence you have.

No need to get your wax panties in a bunch.

Thanks for posting more info about what you use.

Just gave it to you. It's common knowledge that waxes don't last that long since wax literally melts off the vehicle. Most of my evidence is based on research done and using the different products. I suggest spending some time on a REAL detailing forum like Autogeek.

only clientele here that request waxes are all show vehicles and older gentlemen who think thats all there is.

I do agree a wax is a great quick and cheap way to enhance your paint. But its not a durable finish and shouldnt be used as a stand alone and expect more than 2-3 months with daily use. Like i said after my original statement, if you love it good for you keep on using it. But there is millions more out there with stronger durability and equal shine.

I wash my autos weekly, twice a year I use Klasse All In One, then their sealant (apply by hand-don't want to buy/use polisher). I'm getting old and this is getting a little harder. Is this Opti-seal something I could use instead or would I apply after the All In One?

Opti-seal has no cleaning capability. It's a 100% synthetic polymer sealer best applied to a cleaned and prepped surface. With that said, sure you could use it in place of what you're doing. Whether you get "optimal" results would be dependent on some different factors. If your paint is in good shape, it'd certainly be worth a try if you're looking for an easier process. You could even apply the AIO once a year to clean it up and use the opti-seal monthly after that. The first month, it may not adhere as well because of the AIO. But no worries- the AIO is protecting you. As the AIO weathers, more and more opti-seal will adhere. You wouldn't even have to do it monthly. But if you're washing weekly, I probably would.

Completely understand. My old regimen was polish, seal, and wax. There are sealants out there that will give that WOW factor.

Thanks for reply, so if I did the AIO and Opti-seal no need for the Klasse sealant, correct?

If switching to Opti-seal then I wouldn't bother with the Klasse.

I would also recommend trying Adams Guard and Gloss. You apply to a wet vehicle after you wash. Adds a nice gloss plus a sealant. Easy to work with too.

Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant is some of the best stuff I've ever used. Goes on super easy, leaves an incredibly slick surface, and lasts a long time. Good stuff.

So this question is for a few and for those that have done it and the experts.

When i got my 2012 four years ago i havent done anything other than regular car wash to the exterior to the paint.

The question is..... what i need to do to make a good detail to my paint? I have read that a car wash, claybar, compound, and wax. But i also read that sealant lasts longer than wax.
Are this 4 things all i need or i need to add more stuff?
I dont mind spending most of the day doing this so please enlightenment me and thanks...

At the minimum would recommend clay bar and a sealant. Look at your paint in direct sun and see if you see any swirls. That will tell you whether it needs corrected. What color is your Tacoma? Some colors are easier to see flaws/defects in.

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. Swirl remover ("paint cleaner" or polish) or compound-- depending on your needs
    4. Sealer (much better longevity/technology than a wax)

Alternately, you could use an AIO (all-in-one) in place of steps 3 and 4. HD Speed is a very popular one right now. It's very effective at removing swirls and leaves a bit of protection, but you'll probably want to apply a true sealer in 4-6 weeks. So, it saves you a step, but the trade off is that the sealer component doesn't last as long.

Since you've never done a full detail, you will certainly benefit from a good polish (ex. Meguires Ultimate Polish) or paint cleaner, but that's best done with a machine. Sometimes the terms polish and paint cleaner are used interchangeably. Just keep in mind that some products chemically "clean" paint (these won't remove swirls) and some do it with abrasives (these can remove swirls).

If you have access to a machine, I might recommend Meguires Clay kit, Ultimate Polish and/or Compound, and finish with Ultimate Liquid Wax. There are better products out there, but these are easy to obtain locally-- and to be honest, they give great results.

FWIW for those stumbling into this thread, yesterday I did exactly what @harpolith recommended: Meguiar's Clay kit, an application of Ultimate Polish, then a coating of Ultimate Liquid Wax. I have a 2015 that has had the finish well taken care of, but the difference is noticeable. This morning I had my wife run her hand across the hood after which she said it felt like satin. I've never had a vehicle with this smooth of a finish. It's also very shiny...well as shiny as a white one can appear. I think a darker color would shine more.

That said, I also agree with @harpolith's statement about using a machine with the polish. I did this step by hand and it was by far the most difficult and labor intensive part of the process. If you do it by hand I recommend small sections and to not leave the polish on for more than two minutes. Afterward continue to look length ways down the surfaces of the vehicle in good light to see if there's any haze. It took me several times of doing this to eliminate all of the hazing.

This project took most of the day, so be prepared to spend several hours to do it correctly. If you have a machine (which I intend to buy at a later date) you'll save some time and effort, especially with the polish.
