    So this guy I know
    <---------------
was cleaning the truck in the dark I think on Tuesday. I went to get in the truck tonight and noticed the bed light was on. Yes, I turned it on and left it the other night.

Question: does this light turn off automatically after so long to preserve battery life?
Cause it started right up. Im guessing that as I walked by with the key in my pocket, that the interior light turned on and also the bed light.

It's LED IIRC, very little power draw, I wouldn't worry about it. Not Sure if it turns off automatically like the headlights.

There are three positions on the switch. Off,on and with the interior lights. If set to interior lights it will turn off and on with them.

right. But i wanted it to stay on for a while and have the door closed to keep bugs out and I left it in the on position.
Which made me ask the question...will the bed light shut off after so long to preserve battery? Just curious

I did this a few days ago. I left it in the on position for 2 days and I blieve it was off when I walked up to the truck because I didn't notice it in the dark

I know I have read it in the manual page 387. There is a auto shutoff for any electrical draws that last longer the 20 minutes with the engine off.
Except of course modifications you may have made where you connect direct to the battery.

the truck has a master 20 min limit on lights. it will sense what lights are on an will turn them off.

once you touch the truck it will turn them back on if the switch is in the ON position.

I think most if not all Toyotas have had that feature for a number of years. My 2001 Rav4 had that feature and it saved my butt a few times when I left a map light on overnight.

Hmmm....maybe I'm thinking of the dome light. Regardless, I remember a few instances in the seven years I owned it when I started it up in the morning and the light came on because I left it on the night before and the Rav4 shut off the power.

older models it would only do the dome light.

in recent years Toyota added a master shutoff on interior/exterior lights if there is a current draw longer than ~20 minutes.

ie : dome lights, map lights, headlights, parking lights, etc. even if you leave the power outlets turned on, they will turn off. on the PTS vehicles, ACC mode will turn off also due the master shutoff.

My dome shuts off in 15-20 min on my Tacoma, so that's probly what you thinking of.
