    I started the block work on April 13th and the last picture is how it sits as of today 06/20/16. All of the siding is on except for the gables. Still need to do the boxing and figure out if I want to put metal or shingles on it, leaning towards metal. There is a lot going on here and I have a ton of work left to do. I am going to build a house next to this and as of now I have the foundation dug and laid out for footings.

    I will be doing the majority of the work on both myself and with whatever help I can get from friends and family. I usually put in my 10 hrs at my day job and then go relieve the stress working over here for a few hours in the evening. I will use this thread to document progress and try to keep it updated as well as possible.

    The shop building is 28x24 with a 6/12 roof and 12'6" ceiling height. One day I would like to be able to put a lift in it. For now it will be storage and a workshop for the house project, and later on become a shop. The plan is to open up the back wall again later and add on another 24x24 section for the wood shop, that is why there is an opening in the back block wall.

    Looking forward to watching this take shape. Your shop looks way bigger on the inside than it does on the outside, basically the opposite of my shop.

    Is that black material an interior weeping tile inside your shop foundation walls ?

    Footings will be dug for the house on Wednesday. Should be inspected Thursday and poured on Friday if all goes well. Then they will sit for a week, and the week of the 11th I should have the walls formed and poured.

    It's getting real now. Starting to get cold feet, but I know I need to continue. This has been 3 years in the making just to get to this point.

    Ah so , bond break for the slab , I was looking at the pic on my phone , was hard to tell if it was on the wall or flat in the gravel

    Looking forward to more pics , I just built my own house over the last couple years

    @OZ-T

    I was cruising around TW and saw your wood heat thread. I am planning on putting a wood boiler in the new house for heat and hot water. Do you have any recommendations?

    Not off hand , my BIL has a wood fired boiler for his slab heat in his house and shop , if I remember I'll ask him what brand it is

    In my house I run the hydronic floor heat off a small electric hot water tank and have a woodstove

    I would love to do radiant heat but down here it would be way overkill and far too expensive. I can however hook it up to a heat pump and run the water through the coil to heat the air.

    It is not actually that bad. Most of the ground around here (this area) is nasty red clay/mud. This seems to be more of a red dirt than clay. There is actually a fair amount of topsoil on this property. The lot is mostly wooded and that plays a pretty big part in the soil conditions I believe.
