Can I run 265 or larger with 5100's and a leveling kit?

    Need advice/expertise!

New to TW, been reading all of the threads and have seen some great advice but was hoping to narrow it down to specifics for my Tacoma.

    Taco Specs:
2013 MGM Tacoma Prerunner Crew Cab
    Tires: Stock P245/75R-16
    Wheels: Stock (6 lug)
    Engine: 4cl 2 wheel drive
Mods: none, got it in March

I would ideally like to bump up to 265 more aggressive wheels and about a 2-3 inch lift. Would I be able to accommodate the 265's or possibly slightly larger with the Bilstein 5100's PLUS a leveling kit? I am debating between the 5100's and the 3" suspension lift kit (SKU 745N2) from Rough Country.

New to this so before I get raked over the coals, just looking for honest advice so I can build my dream truck without breaking the bank.

    Scott,

Awesome build and great pic. That is pretty similar to what I want the finished product to look like. I don't however want to replace my front bumper. How much is the OME kit that you installed?

As far as tires go, I've heard I can get away with 265's without a lift but I'd like to have the option to go bigger if I had the lift to avoid any rubbing.

So 5100's with a leveling kit would not work in conjunction with each other? Would new UCA's and AAL's come into play with the 5100's or the OME?

    Scott,

I looked into those as well and I've seen a lot of people on TW say going with spacers might not be the best option. I did a little research and was maybe thinking:

    https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...ilstein-adjustable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks/

My only reservation with this kit is the point you made earlier about the UCA's. If I got with this kit and bump to 3" MAX then I suppose i'm looking at another $600+ just in new UCA's correct?

OP, let me know if you have any questions regarding the OME kit.

I am currently running OME in the front and 12" Billsteins in the rear..

Those kits are a little outside my price range to be honest. And trust me, I know that putting a cheap shit lift on a $23K truck isn't ideal but I just want a better look from the stock and some more aggressive tires while adding some value to the truck. The only off-roading I do is when I hunt so looks with SOME functionality are what i'm going for.

I'm certainly going to tab those UCA's in my excel file i'm building so I can adequately save for this 4 month timeline I got going.

As far as wheels go...Any ideas as to who sells good wheels that don't cost a ton of money? Somewhere in the $150 per wheel range? Tires as well.

Still researching. Saw a video on youtube of a guy that had some issues with his aftermarket wheels...He had space between the stock wheels and the brake caliper but once he put the aftermarket wheels on he was basically rubbing the inside of the wheel on the caliper.

Has this happened to you guys at all? Should I add small wheel spacers into my budget as well to avoid this?

You have room for 265s now with no lift, that's what I am running currently. You could go with 5100s set @ .85 just to bump up the room in the front wheel well; after, you could decide if an add-a-leaf would be needed in the rear, depending on the stance of the truck after front 5100s. Least expensive route to get where you want to go and avoid spacers...

    Gary,

I've decided to go with this package (when I can afford it)

    https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...ilstein-adjustable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks/

Comes with the Toytec coils, 2" aal's and the spacer for the driver side. I think this will help me achieve the stance I want without having to upgrade the UCA's (probably down the line though). Still trying to decide on tires and what to do with the stock wheels, either get them painted black or pony up a few extra bucks to get aftermarket.

    Hey Derek,

Here is a good comparison for ya, you can run 265 75 16s on stock suspension (this applies for all trucks on stock suspension from 05-16), I'll post a pic of my truck for a comparison!

    Corey,

Great pics for consideration! I def want to add more aggressive looking tires and that lift kit because quite frankly I'm tired of getting into my truck and feeling like i'm driving a car.

Still need info on wheel spacers because unlike the guy in that youtube video I certainly will NOT be griding down the brake calipers.

    Here's what $800 can do for a truck;newlift 003.jpg newlift 004.jpg

Bilstein 5100's on all 4 corners. Fronts set @ 0". OME 885X coils. Most need a 1/4" spacer on drivers side front to sit level. For some reason, mine needed 1/2". Netted 2-5/8" lift front. Rear got a Deavers 2" AAL for a full 2" lift. The struts (shock and coil) was assembled by Headstrong, which gets you a new "top hat" as well. I also installed a Ubolt flip kit while I was at it. All that came from Headstrong Offroad. $733 for the lift and another $79 for the Ubolt kit. (which you don't HAVE to have) You can save a few bucks by assembling struts yourself.

Tires are 265/75/16 Duratracs (load range C) They cleared with flying colors BEFORE the lift. I also put 1" Bora wheel spacers on to get a bit wider stance.

I cannot force the tires to rub anywhere. Rides great. drives great. Alignment specs were ideal....(2.9 degree caster w/o aftermarket UCA's) I own a restored Airstream travel trailer (16') This truck pulls it quite well.

You can run 265 75 16s with 1.25" spidertrax spacers on stock suspension and you won't have no rub. I did it!

    Corey,

Awesome. When you added the 1.25" spacers did that result in having to get new UCA's?

    ah gotcha.

Did you guys have to get extended break lines when you put your lifts in? Assuming you did ones that were ~3"?

Yep, got 2" extended stainless steel brake lines from Low Range Offroad, about $130 for all 4.
