Saw this 5 string bass guitar at bargain hunt. Man did it have a cool feel to it. Almost bought it but I don't know anything about bass. Don't have a bass amp or anything. Always wanted to give it a try though.

What is that, a Schecter? I know I've seen that shape before. It looks a bit less death metal-esque in purple instead of black. I started playing bass this year after playing guitar for decades. I was surprised how easy it was to switch with a good knowledge of guitar in place. I bought a 1966 reissue Fender Jazz Bass-quite a bit more subdued than that one!

It's an ESP. I'm not too partial to the shape, but it had a cool feel to it when holding it, to the thickness of it to the actual texture of it. I wish I could hear it play, I bet it wouldn't sound too shabby for metal. Maybe overkill who knows.

But I've always tossed around the idea of getting a bass. The only problem is I play from what I hear. Bass isn't as noticeable as guitar in a lot of music I listen to. Or a lot of music in general. So I'm a bit hesitant. I mean I have a decent amount of guitar hours in, and the bass looks awful like 6 string geetars. I have an ear for music and can keep rhythm so I might give a bass guitar a serious chance and get one. But then again I also want to learn how to play violin, drums, and I always want more guitars, on top of always wanting to mod the truck, so who knows if getting a bass guitar will ever be a priority.

Bass or drums are always a good bet if you want to get into a band. Everyone and their grandmother plays guitar it seems. That's one of the main reasons I bought my bass, besides the challenge of learning something new. I don't have a bass amp yet, but I guess I'll buy one if I can ever find anyone to jam with here in the wilderness.

As far as theory, you can get by on bass if you know your major and minor scales, or even just pentatonics. Its pretty easy to make up a walking bass line using the scales you already know from guitar. The only things you really have to learn note for note are the songs that have really noticeable bass lines that wouldn't sound right otherwise.

You're definitely right when it comes to being in a band. Too many people are learning guitar and aren't venturing into other instruments. I always get excited when friends decide to pick up an instrument besides the guitar. I encourage all instruments but guitar is a little too popular.

Ill have to mess around with my grandpas bass for a bit and see how I like it. As for drums, it seems like there's so much muscle memory to learn. A lot of different expensive pieces. And I don't even want to imagine what the equivalent to tablature with guitar is like. I guess it would be easier to learn with videos with drums rather than sheet music like guitars.

Hey yall, I am just starting to learn the guitar. Do yall have any tips to get me started? I am thinking about wagon wheel as a first song to work on because I only listen to country music and I heard it was easy, thoughts?

Nothing beats one-on-one lessons to get started. YouTube is great, but it can't answer your questions or figure out what you need to concentrate on. If you're into country, concentrate on learning your major and minor open chords first. The keys of A, G, C, and D will be the most common in country and rock. Its easy to cheat on guitar and just memorize where to put your fingers, but that will never get you to advanced playing. You need to have a firm grasp of music theory if you want to really get good. Start with understanding how to find all the chords in each key. Search "Nashville Number System" on YouTube and you'll find a bunch of videos explaining keys. Hope that helps.

Do what I didn't do and practice scales and modes. Run finger exercises through all the modes and learn subconsciously where your fingers can go when soloing. I wish I had done that. I'm a lead player in a band and I still have to think about where I can put my fingers in a guitar solo. Not the best practice really.

Setup my pedal board again tonight. Used some hub centric rings to jack up my amp pedal to clear my stop boxes in height lol.

Just got the new wah pedal and looking forward to trying it out at next rehearsal - I have good expectations. :)

I need pedals. My Marshall JCM2000 Dual Super Lead doesn't have enough gain for me:notsure:. I play in a hard rock band and all I have is an ISP Decimator Pedal and a TS-9 tube screamer. I need a boost pedal and I'd love an envelope filters as well as a delay pedal. Trying to sell my old Line 6 halfstack in order to fund the pedals. A powered pedalboard would be cool as well to mount all my soon to have pedals!

Have you tried a ProCo Rat before? I was using one before that I liked. The Rivera has enough gain for what I play with this band so it's just sitting around. There's some different versions and price ranges for them but they all pretty much do the same thing when you're playing loud with lots of gain more or less. They have a big range from boosting to distortion so you may find one useful.

For power I just have a virtual sound one spot tied into my pedal board with zip ties - pretty inexpensive workaround for having power to all my pedals without having to buy an expensive board.

ISP is a sweet pedal! Definitely makes a difference when cranking an amp.

You're welcome. That said, I've been wanting to finish a guitar with bedliner and clear over it. I've done my grill and bumper with this method and they came out pretty nice if I do say so myself. The key is to "knock down" the texture from the bedliner by lightly sanding with 400 grit or something like it and then repainting to make the color look good and clear. Music Man did their Sub 1 guitars (limited run in the late 2000's) with a finish that felt like my bumper / grill - I had one and it felt pretty cool - nice little guitar too.
