If you can't find a location along the crack that is from a rock chip. Try asking the dealer to replace it. Maybe you got a defective glass and was weak and under stress after being installed from factory.

My black truck sits out in full sun all day with the windows up. Hope that don't happen to my truck. I do have the side windows tinted 20% and the Intro Tech Sunshade in the windshield. AutoAnything sold it to me last fall. It is for the 2015 but fits like a glove in the 16.

Sorry to hear about your windshield.

Mine cracked to while I was stopped at a light on a hot day with the windows down. No rock chips just the heat. Dealer said they wouldn't do anything about it because I can't prove it just cracked because of the heat. I have glass on my insurance so I got it replaced but it was already starting to get pitted after 3000 miles.

General complaints about the 3rd gen windshields is that they chip easily (easier than other vehicles plaintiffs have had experience driving). Have not seen too many complaints of them cracking like this. So far maybe I've been lucky with mine here in AZ over 118 degrees on a few days and not cracked yet. Also had a rock hit my windshield, it sounded pretty loud but no chip noticed.

Mine too, cracked with nobody at all on the road near me. Around 150KM ish on the truck. Toyota again said nope wasn't their problem. I had the crack fixed at a shop they couldn't stop the crack, they said the glass is soooo thin.

The crack started near the top about 2" down from top.

Didn't Seatbelt Mike say they are using a different type of windshield glass on the 3rd gen? He said it in some interview. I may have to try and find it.

Heat alone doesn't crack windshields, there usually is a spider crack or chip in the glass that mixed with the heat causes this.
Sucks but it happens. Safelite fixed my latest crack. Came right to my work and did it for a great price.

They would be cracking just sitting on dealer lots if it was just the heat

I wouldn't doubt if this has ever happened to cars. If the installation process of the windshield adds some stress, maybe windshield bond, changes in temperature can make the glass weaker and at some point the glass itself breaking.

Just like any service. You'll find yourself all kinds of employees who have more skills than others. And you'll have employees that make sure they do their job right.

One thing I would do if I was going to pay so much for a windshield is to make sure I get lifetime warranty with it. No way I'm paying such a high amount twice.

Heat alone actually can, and does crack glass all the time. I work in the glass industry and it's typically very obvious when a piece has been cracked due to heat. The tell-tale signs are a crack that kind of runs around randomly, rather than a straight crack due to some kind of object hitting it.

This isn't any kind of issue with the windshields installed on our trucks, or the way they are installed. Heat cracks simply occur, and it's just the nature of the beast.

If it were me I would go ahead and escalate the issue with Toyota corporate. Good luck.

Case started with Toyota they seem to think there is an issue with these windshields she in not so many words said get it replaced and more than likely i would be reimbursed the full amount to repay the insurance
Unusual response from corporate I thought
