Anyone going to be in the area of north lake tahoe the week of the 4th interested in doing any light off road wandering?

Nothing too agressive since I'm a lifted/locked/winched prerunner and have to drive back to L.A. at the end of the week. Thinking about checking out some fire roads and trails up around Mt Watson or other stuff around Truckee or maybe Mt Rose pass area. Might have a friend with a land rover along if I can talk him into getting his mall crawler a little dirty.

If you find any fun trails, let me know. I'll be in that area in early August on my way up to Lassen after.

Pretty much just stuck to the Forest service/fire roads above Tahoe City-Carnelian Bay area which I've explored before. Got up to the top of Mt. Watson trying to get a good view of the fireworks, but went on the wrong night for the south shore shows that would have been more visible from there.

A few of the trails around there were closed off because of fires in the area, but my maps did show some interesting looking fire roads around Mt Rose pass which look like they bypass some of the switchbacks (based on how steep those paved switchbacks are, those trails might be pretty interesting, but they're pretty short).

The tricky part up in the area seems to be finding stuff that's more technical than fire roads without jumping all the way to stuff like Rubicon and the KoH course where it's a really bad idea to go out alone, especially in a mostly stock truck (maybe something like a Samurai or FJ-40 could get around OK without major mods).
