Thinking about ordering a 6inch lift for my taco next week. Im currenty running ome 885s with top plate spacer and nitro shocks in the front and aal and boss shocks in the rear. An 17x9 wheels and 285 70 17s tires.
    Anyone ever done this?
I have done a ton of research on every 6inch lift out there. An still dont know which one i want. Which 6inch lift do you like best and why? Is there one brand that is more problematic then the other? I want just the basic 6 now and will eventually buy fox coilovers to replace the strut spacers in the front. Will my 17x9s wheels be ok with the 6inch lifts? Some say yes some say no.

To be honest the reason i want to go to a 6inch lift is mainly because i think it looks badass. I know they arent the best option if you offroad everyday. But i dont offroad everyday. I do hunt and fish a lot so i need to get in and out of rough places. But im not a rock crawler by any means and i think the 6inch lift would do fine for what i do. Its also my daily driver.

Im also hoping to reduce the angle on my cvs with the 6inch. I have been running the 3inch lift now for about 6months. An im starting to see some wear on the boots already from the fins touching. Im hoping the 6inch will help with this.

Hey nice looking truck,I have pretty much the same lift combo as you,I have a 2015 TRD Sport DCSB black with OME 886 coils and the Nitros up front and Toytec add a leaf and shocks in the back,285/70/17's , I'm switching to Toytec Boss coil overs up front but have been looking at the 6" lifts as well for the same reasons so I would be very interested to hear how you make out and what you think of your end result!

Dont blame you for going to the boss coilovers. I hate the ome 885s and nitro shocks when it comes to travel and they are a bit too stiff on the rd for my liking. Im going to make the switch to 6 that im sure off. Just dont know what route im going yet. If i was going to stay at three inches i would by icon or boss coilovers. I had the icon extended travels with all pro ucas on my last rig and really liked that setup.

Stick with bds, zone, rcd. Stay away from the rough country as it doesn't keep your cv angles straight.

What a very productive and informative post!!! Thank you for saying the pros and cons of going to a 6" lift, because that is totally the input he was asking for, not which 6" lift he should choose. You sir, win the medal for being the most helpful member of TW today. Everyone give him a hand!!

6" is great if you dont wheel or more importantly are not after any additional clearance but are mainly after appearance. It'll do fine in mall parking lots though, so there is that.

And while your cv's will thank you, your driveshaft angle will not, which is also nice.

    enough to go over stuff
Please don't do it.... so many reasons not too....
    Compromises the truck
    Makes it top heavy
    Makes it less full efficient
    The brackets are weak
    Don't gain clearance
    Rides like shit
Looks like shit to anyone who know trucks
    They break.
    And they brake stock parts.

Are they really that bad? Like I said i have installed and ran my fair share of 3inch lifts. But never a 6.

Other then being top heavy and reducing ground clearance how is the 6inch lift worse then a 3inch lift? I always thought that the six might be better for a truck in terms of mechanical wear.

I understand why extreme offroaders dont like the db lifts. But im not exactly a extreme offroader. I use my truck and take it offroad prolly once a week for one reason or the other. But im not going to Moab to climb rocks anytime soon if you know what i mean.

I like the 6inch lift looks but if it is gonna ride worse or wear my truck out faster then the 3inch will then i will just stay where im at.

    Input?
