After hours of reading on the forum..I'm going to keep the truck as is. Maybe I'll go nuts when tax return season hits.

Thanks for all of your help/recommendations!

Which also means I most likely won't be joining everyone for the NH trip

Dude... I'll be stock height.... probably lower with the skids and sliders mounted............

On side note started painting the skids today. Figured I would mount these two for now asap and worry about the rear skid later since that requires drilling holes.. (bolt on apparently means drilling holes now-a-days...?)
Did 3 coats of primer (Rustoleum Metal Primer) and four coats of the bed coating (Duplicolor) on the the painted sides for now, I primered both sides but didn't get a chance to bed coat both sides, I figured I would let it dry overnight in the porch and I'll spray the other side today. Went through two full cans of primer and 1.5 cans of bed coating just to do all that. Thankfully I bought 6 cans of primer and 5 cans of bed coating.

Still trying to figure out a jig to hold the sliders up so I can spray both sides (top and bottom) without flipping or handling it inbetween coats.

You'll love those the first time it snows. My truck's unstoppable with them on.

I was able to put a 4x4 on the ground and set the side of the mount that would normally face the frame on that. That gave enough room for the return leg and they stood up just fine. If you need to, just put a bolt through the mount hole into a 2x so they'll stand up.

You be fine at stock height. You could have done the small hill climb in the RI spot no problem with your truck as-is. You'll be fine up in NH. Things may look like they'rer going to destroy your truck from in the cab but when you're looking from the outside there's tons of room.

Morning all! Went to the cruise night at the local drive-in restaurant last night. Nice turnout, bunch of pictures on the Car Porn page.
@BostonBilly ; I saw this and figured I'd show you, in an attempt to persuade you to keep your project. :stirthepot:

Yessir I did - makes for easy touch up and since I'm not in a huge rush (just need to get everything installed by the 14th of August) I can take my time. Tempted to wire brush parts of the frame that's got surface rust and spraying the primer and bed coating on it as well.... That or I found 4 cans of professional grade undercoating in my basement last weekend so that might be put to use soon. The rear section of the underside is looking really bad right now.

Give it a little bit, you'll find out.

Did you coat your frame with anything?

For the frame I knock off as much as I can then I wire brush the surface that needs painting and clean with alcohol then let dry. Once it's dry I hit it with a chemical rust converter like this, then I prime it with that same primer and then hit it with a good flat paint. The reason I do it this way is because for one it's easy to see if there is a problem and second so it mimics the factory paint so if I ever need to get the frame inspected at the dealership they don't fail me because of another type of "non approved" coating. I do this every other year.

Luckily for me I have to do it this year. YEA!

    not really

i've been spot hitting some places with cosmoline weathershed. i believe that's the stuff that a lot of cars come from the factory with, if you ever notice some goop around bolts etc

Man, I can't seem to give this thing away. Been trying for 4 months at way below book value. If you guys know anyone looking for a sweet, 160mph, naked standard couch-rocket for short money, I'd be much appreciative if you pass this along to them. http://nh.craigslist.org/mcy/5693511220.html
