I just didn't know if the hiccup after update was cuz it's learning. or if someone skipped cleared the learning step and it's running old learned habits on new software. if that's impossible, then I'm ok with the hiccups as it learns :) Truck runs 10x better with this new update

IMO the tsb fixes this. Freeway cruising. off the line. Cruising at 40 on regular city roads - whenever I hit the gas, it's got power now. Before, it was sluggish to downshift, and even then it wasn't downshifting into power band. Now it's power on demand.

Yeah I think that is where the jury is still out.... what is the Student (the tranny in this case) learning and HOW is it learning? That seems to be a potential pitfall

Nice to know. I wish my 2.7 auto could be flashed. The 2.7 auto is a gutless turd, and it doesn't downshift when it should. Peak torque is 4000 rpm and you have to get there to move lol

401 lb ft of torque at 3600 rpm vs. 265 lb ft at 4600 rpm. The I-Force is generating 136 lbs ft more torque at 1000 rpm lower. It's a numbers game...plain and simple. Even though the Sequoia is about 1800 lbs heavier than Taco...it has so much more "twist" from the engine.

Oh I know, I owned a 2009 5.7L CrewMax Tundra for 5 years before getting this Tacoma. And I miss it more than I thought I would to be honest. The Tacoma however, does fit in the garage after all and is a bit more manageable. Not that I really had any issues with the Tundra since I was used to it and always park in the middle of nowhere or back in. I just haven't driven it since December when I got the Taco and haven't had a direct comparison going back the other way till I had to swap out my tags and drove the Sequoia around for the day.

Wow, that's great to hear! This doesn't seem to bother people as much as me, but living in the Rockies this is huge!

Was going to wait until my 5k service, but I might take it in before that now.

My truck ended up going through 3 different driving stages.

1st: LEARNING YOUR DRIVING HABITS: When I first got the truck it had 8miles, drove very laggy and had harsh up/down shifts, I felt I needed to drive really aggressive and heavily put my foot on the pedal in order for it to respond, especially when merging into the freeway or going up hills.

2nd:AFTER THE XXX AMOUNT OF MILES YOUR TRUCK LEARNS YOUR DRIVING HABITS: For me it was around 900 miles. I took my truck on a road trip to Utah/ Arizona and after it passed 900 miles the truck one day just felt a lot more responsive, still a bit laggy the first couple shifts especially in the city or when trying to accelerate into the freeway it would feel as if it would lurge forward when trying to accelarate quickly.
When coasting it would feel as if I was towing something really heavy behind me, due to the harsh down shifts.
It shifted much better for me after 900 miles than it did anytime before that, but still felt unsatisfied with the transmission.

3rd: TSB FLASH UPDATE: Now my truck to me feels like a completely different truck from the first day I bought it. I feel my truck drives a whole lot better now then when it did past the 900 miles. Truck feels snappier, if I'm coasting it feels it can go on for awhile without my foot on the pedal.
Where before I felt it slowed down too quickly so I would have to accelerate to get to the stop sign instead of rolling to it.

Also driving up hills feels much better I do a lot of driving up hills and a couple weeks ago the transmission seemed like it did not know which gear it wanted to be in, felt I would have to over accelerate to go up hills, but now it accelarates steadily and smoothly up hills unlike before.
Cruise control seems to stay on one gear where before it would alternate different gears everytime I would go up a bit of an incline or decline.

I now feel really happy with my transmission don't have any complaints there.

In my experience my transmission had only seemed to get better with time and miles, where other people like smitty99 seem to claim the opposite.
But I can't speak for them cause I honestly do not know what's going on there.
Weather it's a perception vs reality thing or if our trucks are really just that different.

Yeah no interest in a full-size. I love the size of the mid-size trucks. Perfect for me. The Colorado 3.6 felt a lot better off the line, actually faster than the Silverado 5.3 (probably because of weight) I tested but I'd need a real good reason to go back to a GM. I thought about asking a dealer if they have been flashed but honestly, most of the salespeople around me know jack squat about these Tacomas.
Thought I read someone post that all trucks built post-July 14th will have new software, but that is just the Tacoma World rumor mill.

DON'T buy a Taco, save yourself some grief and buy a sports car. Something like a Lexus IS 350 should be your style. Tacos are made for manly men, the type of man that when they get a flat out in the middle of nowhere, roll up their sleeves and change it themselves. They don't walk to find a cell signal and call for AAA. You see a lot of these men here that drive standard transmission too. It's in their heritage to interact with their vehicle.
Toyota never should have come out with Toyota care for this truck. These men know how to DIY, pick their own off-road tires, suspension and mod to their preference. If you're not that guy, a sports car is calling.

    Good luck with that!
Not worth waiting for changes, unless you want the PRO. The only changes coming are likely in the options list. Toyota just re-arranges them year to year for the next ten years.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

What do you want instead a Ridgeline ? Soccer Mom truck.
    Colorado ? :anonymous:

    You can't beat a Taco.
If you need the torque, get a Tundra.

Why? In 2018 you will be saying 2020, then 2022, then 2024. Zzzzzzzzzzz.
Smitty do us all a favor and just go buy yourself a Ridgeline, please.
    I'll chip in a buck.
