The hill is just east of the dealership. Incline starts about 3-4 minutes east of it on the 10.

I got the update yesterday. The service rep knew of the problem and the TSB, I'd taken it in for the shifting issues before. Unfortunately neither the mechanic who drove it afterwards nor I, notice a significant enough increase to justify a thumbs up. MTF in a few days.

Tried to have the TSB applied this week, but the dealer sent me walking. I brought the PDF with me as well as several pages of registered complaints noting the same issue(s) from the NHTSA site. They couldn't duplicate the issue(s) and therefore refused to do the work. I have opened a case with Toyota and expect to hear from their customer relations rep early next week. Although my tranny seems to work quite well, it does intermittently exhibit the behaviors noted in the TSB. I'm going to pursue this because now it's a matter of principle for me if nothing else.

By analogy, we all apply software updates on our phones, computers, and other electronic devices. Software updates are part of ongoing maintenance to correct issues and keep stuff working. Why should we have to beg a car manufacturer for the same thing?????

3 days after warranty repairs and the tsb done. Very very happy with the truck. Happiest in 6 months of ownership.

Toyota of Orlando did not want to do the TSB even with the document I supplied to them. They stated my vin was not included.
I showed them how to read it and they said "oh" now they will do it. How incompetent that service department is!
I got pretty upset about the situation and they finally listened.... I'm definitely not going to go back to them for anything.
It's so stupid how easy they can loose valuable customers.

What the hell does TBS stand for and I haven't gotten any notice from Holman Toyota about bringing my 16 in for a update. Is this a recall or just done by any Tacoma owner who complains about it then they will do the update?

It is possible there is a mechanical variation that causes the problems and the firmware update is easier than a mechanical fix (I've seen that done plenty of times in other industries). If that were the case, the update might not be desirable if you don't have the mechanical issue.

That said, with the problem so widespread I don't think that is the situation here. I think they just ran out of time during the development process and shipped it with firmware that "worked good enough" and now they are fixing it with an update. They were probably working n the update before the first truck was delivered.

I took it out this morning and can confirm that the consistent 3-4 flare @ 25 MPH that I have had in the first mile of the day is gone.

I am not defending dealers but I will tell you my dealer was in the dark about several issues on my truck. I think we on TW are way ahead of issues because we seek out this stuff. Owners are looking harder for a TSB than the dealers are. I think the delay in communication from Corporate causes the reluctance to act. After I showed them some of my issues had been reported and corrected elsewhere, by Toyota at other dealers, with copies of repair tickets, they were more accommodating on my return visit. Thanks to forums we no longer have to wait for a notification to come in the mail. Since I had mentioned to the dealer this TSB was forthcoming they were watching for it and mine was one of the first done.

It is not like a recall. It's a document to help the service folks fix problems. Unless you complained enough ahead of time, there is essentially zero chance they will contact you about it. The idea is that a customer comes in and says they have a certain problem, if the dealer is on top of it, they will check for TSB's that cover the issue.

So to get this done, you contact the dealer and say "I have problem X, Y , Z. In researching the problem, I've found T-SB -xxxx that sounds like it corrects exactly the problems I'm having. Can you take a look and see if this will fix my issue?".

In the case of this T-SB where the problem is so widespread and the fix (so far) is good, folks are going in guns blazing with a printout of the TSB and saying they want this done.

Because it's just there to assist in repairs, the dealer may not even know the TSB exists until someone brings it to their attention or a sharp technician does a search.

If you don't have the problem described in a particular TSB then the TSB doesn't apply. In the case of the TSB discussed in this thread, some folks are having problems because the dealer can't replicate the transmission issues so they won't implement the TSB. In that case you have to push harder by going through Toyota corporate or being more insistent. If you think your dealer will be resistant, you can contact corporate first and get a case opened. That seems to work in most cases.

At this point it's not a recall so no one from Toyota is going to notify you. From what I can see in the forum, most dealers will install it if you request it. Go back to the first post and read the TSB. If the tech follows what it says, they should install it if they experience the P/R->D delay, harsh upshift or delayed upshift when using cruise. If you complain about one or more of those happening they may simply take your word for it and install the update without a test drive. My suggestion, call the service dept and tell them you are having at least one or two of the problems listed, set up an appointment and take the TSB with you and hand it to the tech writer. If they give you any flak, insist they install it or you'll open a case with corporate.

Dropped mine off at 7am with the TSB Report. I told the service manager i got the TSB bulliten direct from corporate that grabbed his attention was glad to take care of it ! Told him tranny fluid needs to be checked and the zerk fittings are all dry and never purged from factory, that's when he got a bit of a attitude with me! Told me they would never leave dry from the factory! Tried to explain it all to him but i think everyone knows the out come of that! So when my truck was pulled into the service area i snuck back and talked to the tech working on it and he called the shop foreman over and i explained all the issues, he smiled and said no problem i will see to it all zerks are purged and the tranny will be checked manually by the tech. Your truck wont leave until he checked everything and then apologized for the service manager and said he would have a talk with him! The things you have to do to get things done right it amaze's me!

After you walked back to get your coffee they probably cut a big fart in your driver's seat then let it bake in the sun for about 30 minutes.
