Could you give me some input of what to look for in an aftermarket hitch?
    Favorite, best, etc.
    Thank you.

I'll be pulling the normal project tasks that I get stuck with, I'd guess no more than 2 tons or so plus trailer weight.

I assume you are talking about a installing a receiver hitch on a truck without one.

I just installed a drawtite hitch from etrailer.com, a curt wiring kit and a pollack connector. The hitch has a higher capacity than the truck and pollack connector looks stock in the bumper. The wiring was pretty easy.

2 tons is over the weight limit of a non-tow package truck

Thank you all for the help. Reading up, looks like the Draw Tite it is. I can't believe Toyota makes you go for all the work of wiring in the harness?! I would expect a plug junction to come out of from the factory with a short harness to mount to hitch area.
I'm going to have to crawl under a take a peak.

I keep expecting manufactures to design a vehicle that doesn't cost an arm an a leg to accessorize with OEM parts after purchase. I know, never going to happen. What costs them ten dollars at the front end to standardize ends up being two hundred at purchase.
    Those margins are crazy.

Costs $600 to get the tow package. Comes with the hitch, 4 and 7 pin wiring, bigger alternator, oil cooler, trans cooler, power steering cooler. And nearly doubles the rated towing capacity. That's $10 on each payment on a 5 year loan

The problem is , you can't get the tow package on all trim levels. It's not a stand alone option. I would have ordered it if I could with my SR 2.7 . I know your going to say you should have got the v6 but the 2.7 with a tow package would work perfect for me and many other work type trucks I'm sure.

You bought a new truck without the tow package knowing you were going to tow 2 tons regularly?

I must be bad at math. Because 2 tons is 4000lb and that's more than the 3500lb rating

And the 2.7 is rated at 3500lbs also with no tow package

That was directed at the OP. non tow package is 3500 no matter what hitch he bolts up. He will never have the coolers that add the extra capacity
