A lot of motorcycles use the same setup for adjusting spring preload. Just back out the set screw a few turns and use the correct size spanner wrench on the collar. Then snug the set screw back in.

You can order the spanner from Fox, or you can get one from some of the nicer tool manufacturers like Matco or Snap-On.

I have the same lock nut with the allen screw.the spanner wrench is a piece a shit and not worth the money. I like the large screwdriver better. Because of the remote resivor on my shox I had no room to use the wrench. Fyi spray all the parts with wd40 that spin when adjusting the nut & dont loosen the allen screw too much or it will jump threads when your sping load gets heavier. Oh yeah jack the truck up so theres no weight on the suspension. GL!

You dont have to put it on the truck to adjust it, you can do it while they're off the truck and it'll actually be easier. But you can also adjust them while theyre installed on the truck as long as you have your front end jacked up.

Heres the tool I was referring to earlier in the thread, works great and way cheaper:

Never really adjusted my Fox's but with my Icon's it was way easier to adjust on the truck. The spanner I got sucked and didn't help much. I ended up using a 1/4" drive 6mm socket with an extension and that worked wonderfully. I'd assume the same method would work on Fox's.

The only thing about adjusting them on the truck is that you cant spin the collars as much because they're in the coil bucket. I get the spring as close to where I want it and then make final adjustments while theyre installed

Before this thread fizzles out, I got them on and holy shit do they ride good and they're not even broken in yet. After I drove them around they settled a little like normal but I have an AAL in the back and a relentless fab bumper so it's still a little lower in the front. If I compress the spring more to raise it will it make it ride worse? I'm saying maybe lift the truck 1 or 2" not move the collar 1 or 2. I know it doesn't really bother dirt bikes to adjust the race sag so I'm assuming it doesn't hurt these either right, at least just a little.

    Too many
The more you compress the spring the ride will be firmer.

If you have a plate bumper, a stiffer coil spring is something to consider in the future. I was surprised at how good the truck rides with just coilovers and ucas when I had that on my old truck. I would wait for your springs to settle a little and then make adjustments and then realign again after.

Alright guys thanks! I forget what comes on them right now, but what how stiff and how long of a coil should I upgrade to in the future? The bumper weighs 125lbs and I'm probably going to put a winch on too, but not an extremely huge one.

just had these installed today. I have the single locking collar above coil and am showing about 1.75" plus collar would be 2 .25" inches of thread. Is there a way to translate that amount to where between 0 and 3" of lift i am at? This is stock from fox factory (unadjusted) if that helps and it appears to be about the same as the 1.75" the 5100s were set at. Thanks

FOX indicates the coilovers are adjusted to provide approx 2" of lift. This is generally what's seen with the 2005 -2015 Double Cab 4x4 (2016's will seen less because of added weight). Now the word approximate is key here since the lift height is never exact and will often vary from truck to truck.

    Does this answer your question?

I guess my problem is I didn't measure before installing because i had a front leveling kit with stock coils that I believed to be sagging, so i thought these numbers would be irrelevant. My old 5100s were set at 1 3/4" and the new fox coils unadjusted seem to be just a bit higher. So that would make since: they are set @ 2" lift from factory on my access cab. I guess i was just wondering if there was a way to measure from top of threads to see exactly where you were at (0-3") but i now see that would differ from each tacoma because of weight. Just wanted to make sure i dont go over the 3" maximum. I think im going to try maybe 3-4 full rotations this weekend for a final 2 3/8- 2 1/2 final lift. Thanks for trying to answer my almost unintelligible question image.jpg

Really the key things to focus on when adjusting your coilovers are the CV angles and the available down travel at the lifted height (so many people don't really consider this). Some people will lift the front to a point where there is very little down travel left at the new lifted height which has a big influence on quality of ride and performance when offroading.

@Mr Salty ya i was so focused on getting closer to 3" and with bigger tires that I honestly wasnt even thinking or caring about drive quality. Really happy with how this truck handles/ feels at a little over 2" with 265/7516 and a decent amount of room to put them in the wheel wells thanks again!

He's been banned for a while now, but he was right. The allen screw just keeps the collar from moving, you can remove it completely and reinstall it once you're done adjusting
