Just wondering if anyone know if there was ever a recall on the 97 tacoma 3.4l for the head gaskets. Mine seems to be going out with only 75k miles. I hear that there was one but I can't seem to find info anywhere if there still doing it.

I know there was buy back and warranty for the frames but never heard of one for the head gaskets.

no. your gaskets should be lasting alot longer than that though.

I thought so too. No noticeable leaks though and I have to put a little more than half a gal of coolant after only 3 days of completely putting fresh coolant in it. Only started happening after I changed out the valve cover gaskets.

So you have recently drained and refilled the cooling system, correct?

Yes, but I've had to refill it like that even before I drained and put new coolant in

Tighten the bolts that are going through, the valve cover gaskets to the heads my truck had 280k on an all original truck we bought in 96 and my heads started to leak bad, I was running 50/50 water and oil, tightened up the bolts and it didn't leak since, I blew out my rod before i ever saw a drop of water in the oil again

Yes there was a "campaign". I don't remember if it was a service campaign, TSB or what. I don't think it was a full recall. IIRC it was the first 2 years and partial 97.
I doubt any aid will still be available from Toyota.

And yes, there was a recall for this. My dad's 96 had it done but that was back when in 1998.
