Any fellow survivalists utilize their truck?

In many areas, pedestrians have right of way, regardless of whether they're in a crosswalk or not. Simply plowing into them would constitute vehicular assault in most areas, which I think is a felony.
Now, if you start slowly driving through the crowd and they start beating on your car, that would change the scenario, in my mind. The minute they start punching windows and kicking the car you're justified in leaving in a hurry, since that would give you reason to believe you were in danger.
Note that I'm not a lawyer, so do some research for yourselves on what is and isn't considered 'justified'

When I was visiting a discrete vehicle armor business in San Antonio for a former employer they had something similar as an option. Would stream/fog pepper spray or other "back the F up" agents.

wasn't sure if it would creep in at all like when you pass a dead skunk even with the fan turned off or recycling cabin air.

 

Something I recently added to my bug out kit is this pocket reference book. It has things inside like conversion tables, plumbing pressure loss charts, surveying and mapping formulas, construction formulas, and so on. It's basically a portable, printed version of Google. I figure if I ever have to bug out, I'm either going to be out of reach of cell signal or the infrastructure is down and Google will not be accessible.

That's exactly what I was thinking about something non lethal but hella painful

 

They had one setup that looked like factory hood mounted windshield sprayers aimed to the sides of the vehicle plumbed to a hidden pump and tank. Didn't inquire about it as the ballistic armor was the product we were interested in for some vehicles that were being shipped overseas.

just spin your wiper fluid nozzles to the side and replace windshield fluid with whatever you can find, haha no wiring required

Bleach is the first thing I thought of Irritating but not lethal. It'll also do number on their clothing.

I'm thinking something like this would be effective. Weld the jets to the sliders:

 

Easy, especially if you have an aftermarket bumper- add a secondary windshield washer system but put chili oil (or make your own by boiling chilis/chili powder in water then straining), commercial OC spray refill (available at cop shops), skunk sent, fox urine, whatever you deem appropriate in the reservoir. Something like this is cheap and easy; just mount the nozzles facing outwards and shut off your vents before using.

I'd say keep a larger pepper spray container in your vehicle as well. A paintball gun with pepperballs (expensive) or non-lethal rubber balls would be fun but you'd probably escalate things to a level you don't want.

Like all else, there are degrees of danger and your perception of that danger. On the low end of the spectrum, if there are police present and protesters are blocking the road causing you a short delay in getting home to supper - be late. On the other hand, if you wandered into a scenario best described as a "riot," a full blown civil disturbance with resources of the police/fire stretched thin and there are no authorities around and 911 is busy or overloaded and your routes of progress and egress are blocked by violent (or what you perceive to be violent people) then I would say that any means of self-defense, as in any situation that you feel under imminent threat, would apply.

If you legally carry it might be that. Although keeping in mind that you are behind the wheel of a two ton weapon that will likely keep you safe if you maintain forward progress then I would (along with all the appropriate disclaimers that I am not a lawyer and did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night) I would do my best to maintain forward progress, understanding that this may further incite the crowd which may hasten your forward progress.

But you know this. Let me leave you with this - you may not be old enough to remember Reginald Denny but that should be foremost in your mind if this would ever happen to you. It is for me and would be the first tidbit I would share with my attorney if I found myself facing charges since it would go to my mental state at the time.

All this to say that thinking about this is good. If you don't think about it - if/when it happens you will freeze and likely die. Mental rehearsal is critical to getting through these "low frequency/high lethality" kinds of times....or, "The body can't go where the mind hasn't been."
