I have an 07 Tacoma 2wd automatic with about 90k miles. Tonight leaving work I thought I had a dead battery. The starter sort of clicked and the dash lights were dim at best. I tried to roll my truck back to allow access for a buddy to jump me and the truck would not leave park. I tried a few more times taking the key in and out and BAM it lit up like normal and started. My clock reset itself but my factory radio stations remained not sure if this matters but I did notice the clock was wrong. I made it a few blocks away from work driving fine but the brakes seemed really sensitive like I would barley tap them and it felt like I slammed them on very odd. So I got onto the on ramp and everything was fine until about a 1/4 mile when the truck just wanted to stop like I was driving with the brakes on. I pulled over and checked to see if the emergency brake was on and it wasn't. I smelled burnt brakes and the tow truck driver I called also said the same thing smells like your brakes locked up. What would cause this? I feel it had to do something with the initial not wanting to start problem and maybe the computer messed up and applied the ABS? I dunno please help. I did not notice any fluids or anything out of the ordinary after pulling over just a brake dust smell.

No this is incorrect. The brakes would not effect the starting nor would the starting issue effect the brakes. The computer doesn't apply the brakes using the abs system. The abs system only pulses the brakes.

Either the rear parking brake are hung up and dragging or you have a stuck caliper piston in the front.

Was it pulling left or right?
Did you look for the hot wheel?

Couple shocks, some old tires, and a bad paint job
Check all your main connections from the battery to the ground cables up to your fuse box. Sometimes mice and rats like to chew things like that.

Yes the brakes and truck problem are two separate problems. If your master cylinder is going bad or the booster is going as well it's probably not releasing vacuum in the lines causing your brakes to clamp and would be the reason for your brakes to be real touchy with little pressure.

Did not see a red hot brake after I pulled over. I think it was just the front passenger thats where the smell and a little bit of smoke was coming from. My battery came with the truck its an older one but I never had any problems before this as in braking. The truck didn't want to start like I said at first and it also didn't want to leave park for me to roll it back to get a jump. I'm new to working on my own truck. I just washed her not to long ago and only noticed some new dust on the front passenger side. Anyway I can check the master cylinder or anything myself? I have no warning or service lights in the dash and all my fluids are fine as in all at the full lines.

Just checked the fuse box and wires and they all seem good this truck isn't to abused the engine bay is pretty clean for being an 07 just my positive terminal always builds up that crust but its never been an issue with not starting. Would a dying battery cause any of this?

Ok so dumb and so sorry for forgetting this but when I bought the truck the guy said it may need a new wheel bearing on the front passenger and I bought the entire bearing and assemble from a link I found on here months ago and never got around to installing. Is there a chance my bearing just went out causing the front caliper to lock up? I ran the volt meter on my battery and its fine I got 12v off and about 14v when running.

Sorry for being annoying but I replaced the bearing n hub assembly kit and it seemed to do the trick. Took it out for a spin and no noised, grinding or pulling to either side. I also checked the pads which were very beefy still a lot of life left.

It sounds like the wheel bearing was starting to seize up.

Update my brakes locked up again turns out the master cylinder was bad so had it replaced.
