Trucks in 4Wd but light is blinking

    How are to engaging it? At a stand still? It engages best while coasting forward

    Well, now that it's causing and not going into 4wd I have tried all kinds of stuff to try and kick it in. Forward, back, straight, wheel turning left and right. I usually always engage/disengage while coasting. Except when I am already in trouble and need the 4wd before I can do some coasting.

    Sounds to me it's a combination of engaging it on a steep grade (load on the driveshaft ) and with a loss of traction (slippage.) I try to make a habit not to engage mid way up a steep hill... better to get into it at the bottom. Next time try taking your foot off the gas to take the load off the drive line before you flip the switch.

    I have tried numerous times on several grades, and with/without load, and with restarting the truck.

    When the truck was new (8yrs ago) you could catch into 4wd nearly any time no problem.

    I think this is it exactly. If you back tires are starting to slip they are still going to be turning faster than your front wheels(which are actually slowing down since you are accelerating).

    The owner's manual states you wheels need to be straight for proper engagement btw(someone said they try it with their wheels turned).

    Sounds like it could be the ADD module. I read about it here (I think). When you switch to 4HI, the light blinks indicating the transfer case has switched and when it goes steady it means the ADD has locked the front axle. The ADD motor will fail move.

    RomeoFour8 that sounds like my issue for sure. Thanks for finding that for me! I am going to have to check that out... Of course I just rolled outside of my extended warranty so hopefully I can find time to check that out myself....

    my truck did the same thing man. just make sure that when you are done with 4wd, crawl under there and make sure you can spin your front driveshaft to make sure its out of 4WD!
    i replaced my actuator (ADD) and it solved my problem. keep us updated
