Was it just a case of you looking at one taco from mexico that looked bad or was it multiple ones? I ask vecause i know dealers detail vehicles before selling them and their minimum wage employees dont give 2 shits about the paint. Plus dealers dont have good detailing practices imo.

I work at the Toyota plant in Ontario in the Lexus paint shop so quite familiar with paint quality and I must say I'm very happy with my inferno Taco out of Texas as far as the paint appearance goes. Dissapointed to hear about the Mexican paint quality.

Paint quality on my mexitruck seems solid. It's the mechanical shit falling apart that has me worried.

I've done some color sanding on mine to repair some chips. I can say without a doubt my black truck has a base coat/clear coat, as do the rest of them. Plus I emailed Toyota and verified this.

I have a 5 prefix Vin and the paint was flawless, like wet glass.

Extra cab? As in double cab? Cuz technically access cab has an extra cab compared to a no cab design

there is no regular cab there's an extra cab/access cab or a double cab. So technically your question makes no sense.

Everyone I've seen so far, about 7. I know the dealership has tried to buff some of it because I can see some buff marks. Since the first arrival last year they only brought in USA one's with the serial # starting in 5. During the past month or so they started getting the Mexico trucks with VIN #3. You cannot buff a paint finish if it does not have enough body (paint) on it. It has an orange peel look to it where it was starving for paint. The Black has no depth to it and it should have the most depth of all the colors. Pointed it out to my salesperson and he admits that he can see the difference between the two Plants.

Maybe you can use that to your advantage to negotiate the price? Not sure how anal you are about paint though.

I am anal about a lot of things for sure but like I said the USA black is how a new vehicle should look like and the Mexico Black is unsatisfactory. To the average person they might not notice until you point it out and they see the comparison and then they'll say Whoa! what happened. You are right about the possibility to negotiate a better price but I think they won't give a SH-- because they can sell it anyway the way it is. I hope I'm blessed to get a USA one. Tks

Fwiw I have a 5 Vin US truck with black paint. I think the finish is fine, nice and deep like u say. But the quality of the paint is horrible. It chips and stains easier than any I've ever had.

All of the 2016's in Canada are from Texas, they're mostly 4x4 automatics.

I think the manual transmission in the Tacomas comes from Thailand however.

Where did you get Thailand from, I have a new 6speed MT, just assumed the tranny was probably made in Japan.

Auright! My truck just came in and I am SOOOO happy that it's a made in the USA Black Paint Tacoma. Tks for all the input that you all provided. The Black looks nice and wet like it should be. My VIN remained the same after arrival from what was given to me by my sales rep. Should pick it up in a few days.

The "extracab" lingo went away after the 1st gens. I'm assuming your truck is a access cab, which is built in Texas.
