Thank you! My wife and I are avid chess players and I always wanted a nice chess board. We play most every day.

I've got almost everybody at the Firestation playing now. We have 3 cheap chess boards at the station and we'll have all day tournaments between runs. Makes the shift go by a lot faster.

Do you have a nifty 50? You can buy a ring the screws on the filter ring of the lens and has a canon mount on the other side of the ring. You mount the lens on the camera backwards and you have a macro lens. I usually just hold mine against the camera to use it like that because I can't find my reversal ring. Just another option if it won't get a lot of use and you want another lens instead.

Pocket change in the Nano crystal coat 2.8 lens arena. A good lens is worth it's weight in gold and amount of time you can use it.

"canon lens reversal ring" worked for me.

I have a Nikon 52mm lens reversing ring, here's one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-BR2-5...146810?hash=item3d2107883a:g:hOwAAOSwENxXl9zn

The BR-3 ring goes on the back of the lens that's now in front to protect the rear element, it's like a short lens hood.

I think Pentax was the first company big on reversing lenses for macro use. note this is only optimal for extreme macro closeups, where the subject is closer to the lens then the lens is to the image plane. we used to reverse the Takumar 50/1.4 lens on a old Spotmatic on the end of bellows to get sub 1:1 macro pictures, where the image field is well under 1"... you need a ton of light, and shoot at the smallest aperture the lens supports to get any sort of depth of field.

and oh yeah, with an EOS lens on a reversal adapter, you won't be able to stop down, unless that adapter also attaches to the lens' own mount to make electrical contact. focus will, of course, be purely manual (but doing macro work, you're usually focusing with your bellows, anyways.

Here's the modern version of it for canon. It maintains all the electronics in the lens and mounts it backwards.

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/search?N=11050997&InitialSearch=yes&sts=pi

I have the D version Nikon lens with an aperture ring on it so it doesn't need an electronic connection. I can set the aperture and just hold it against the camera to use it or use a reversal ring with it and have it mounted. Here's an example with it just held against the lens mount.
