4Runner with the 4.0. What do you need a V8 for in a 4Runner? The towing benefit is not high enough to offset the decrease in mileage IMO. We have a 2006 4R 4.0 in the family with 260k miles on it, never needed anything other than routine maintenance. Not to mention that it is more comfortable and more efficient in every way imaginable than a first gen tacoma. Also makes quite a bit more power.

There's not much of an MPG drop for the 4.7L. It's not like the 4.0L is a model of fuel efficiency. Since I already have a Tacoma we're going to look for a 2003-2009 4Runner or GX470. It's weird but they both have lower resale than the 2001-2004 Tacoma 4X4 double cab if odometer miles are similar.

Our 4.0 averages 21mpg combined. I don't know anyone with a 4.7 that does that

Fuel economy is just not a deciding factor this time. If it was, we would not be looking for a body-on-frame vehicle with a low range transfer case.

I've always said, if you're more concerned about mileage, get a car.

Thank you 4WD. I got pretty lucky with this find actually. I have another regular cab Taco but needed more room. I bought this one from a friend of the family for about half of Kelly Blue Book value. It's not in perfect shape, but that has made it easier to get started on mods.

107k... Gave her a fresh clay bar today after her wash. My timeline for a full OME setup is has been moved up, and will be taking place at the end of August. I couldn't be more excited after wanting it done for the last 10 years of ownership.

In the back of my mind I'm worried about how she'll look with the 31's and the OME lift, but the suspension needs so much love that I'm not going to let it stop me. I'm also strongly considering a topper soon, but since it would be a used purchase I would just end up painting it black myself since the odds of an Impulse Red for sale are one in a billion.IMG_20160727_165401.jpg Any thoughts on how I can expect that to turn out? Anyone completed a similar task?
