Yup. Oddly enough the Tacoma felt more like a 'truck' than the Colorado and F-150 I test drove.

I couldn't help but to chime in. Did I understand you correctly? You bought a 4 cylinder Toyota truck with resale in mind?!:boink:
    Sorry, I couldn't help it!:D

OP: Nice thread; You definitely sparked controversy. :) A lot of interesting comments in here, good, bad, and the ugly.

I'm not here to argue or present my resume, but I respectfully disagree. I live at 7220' and my 4.0 liter Toyota pulls 5000ish lbs. mountain passes and in the wind much better than the 3.5 in my '16, and at 75 mph no problem. It may be winding out, but I'm not hitting the rev limiter or the red line even. My 1st gen pulled the same load in the same conditions with the 3.4L and an automatic in the same mountains better than the '16 with 3.5 and at higher speeds, definitely not 75 mph up the hills, but it did it just fine. I drove that '99 from 30k miles until 233k miles with the same loads, original engine, trans, etc. and the truck is still running around after I sold it last year. I think the '16 would pull similarly if Toyota would've used the same 4.10:1 ring and pinions as the old trucks, but they were obviously going for fuel mileage over torque bias. Living at high altitude like @Threerun, we just will never see those fuel mileage numbers period, unless we're visiting Arizona or California apparently. There's just no oxygen up here and the 3.5 is more dependent on it. By the way, my '16 never saw 6th gear unless I shifted manually, and that was with the wind behind me or going down hill or both and that was with or without ECT on:thumbsup:. This is my experience with the truck based on many years of experiencing other trucks(you pick the brand and model, I've driven them all, I do it for a living). If a person wants a truck for towing more than a couple thousand pounds, this probably isn't the truck, but for the person with the occasional trailer that needs pulled, I think an owner needs to have confidence in knowing that their truck will do the job. If it weighs 4000 lbs. then it weighs 4000 lbs.

    Case closed.:deadhorse:

I'm here. Can't get over how personal some folks take this shit. But it's entertaining... My first Toyota, all I had to go on was manufacturer claims and press releases. Don't understand folks getting pissed off just because someone posts an opinion that differs from theirs. Thanks to everyone who genuinely tried to help.

Going to ride my 30mpg carburated 103" BMC rigid chopper to work tomorrow. 35mpg if I baby it. :hattip:
