    Hi all

It's been some time since my last post but I thought it may be interesting to share some pics of my Taco and trailer which were rear ended this past weekend.

We were hit by an older style 3/4 ton dodge pickup going approx. 60 km/h. I was stopped behind an idiot who cut me off and then opted to stop in front of me for the next available left turn. I had about 2 secs to praise my truck for some kick arse braking before I heard screeching tires. Total bummer.

The trailer was empty (thankfully) but it absorbed a lot, I'm thankful for that. Very little body damage where the trailer came in contact with my truck, bit of a visible twist in the bed.

So far we are on track for a fix but the damage is most definitely underneath and I'm sure there will be more than the rough estimate. I'm doubtful my trailer can be repaired but I am a little concerned about towing with this truck again. If it is repaired should I be comfortable it would be as strong as before?

Thanks for looking and thank you in advance for any replies. :)

Did your estimate include a bent frame? I would be surprised if it didn't; and if it does, I would be surprised if it wasn't totaled.

Yikes! I might have tried to tangle the guy in front too. Just for being a no good cutting-off left turner. Good luck OP

Glad your OK. I have to agree with Brett. The towing package is actually part of the frame and attaches the bumper to the truck. With that kind of damage I'd be surprised if the frame was not tweaked. Sorry:annoyed:
    Good luck:fingerscrossed:

Thank goodness there was no livestock in that trailer. Glad you are ok. People really do drive like animals these days.

Another person expecting that truck to be a total loss.

If it's not, to answer your question dear, I would not want a truck with a replaced frame after an accident like that. I would likely sell the truck after the repair depending on how much of a financial hit it would be (if any).

Just out of curiosity, did the jack ass that cause the accident (the guy who cut you off) stop at all?

I'm betting it is a write-off. Sorry to hear this, I am glad you are alright.
Frames aren't cheap, on top of thousands worth of body damage; I'd be genuinely surprised if they figure saving it was a viable option. I know I wouldn't quite feel the same in it after, especially when towing.
My pops got smacked by a semi-truck and pushed sideways down a freeway for a couple hundred meters before the trucker even knew what was going on. They "repaired" his Nissan Altima instead of writing it off, but it never drove the same. In fact, he never felt safe in it afterward. He got rid of it a week later.
Most B.C. drivers are awful just like in Alberta; especially in the mountain-ranges.
    Good luck, Raven.

Sorry for your accident. I was hit a year and a half ago in Corpus Christi Texas by an idiot who just ran into the rear of my vehicle. He was doing 65 to 70mph and I had just shifted to 4th gear at around 40. He drove us over 250 feet before we came to a stop, sideways. The trailer was toast, a custom fiberglass jeep tub with a tilt up top and drop canvas for camping. The jeep was repaired, but it was costly. Fortunately the brunt of the impact was absorbed by the trailer. Glad you are safe and had no livestock in the trailer.

I can't understand your point of view on this. If the frame is **REPLACED**, then the truck is *NEW*. So what's the problem?

I wonder if a load on the trailer (though obviously it wouldn't have been good to have animals in there when being hit, but for instance, some kind of heavy cargo) and surge brakes, would have saved the truck's frame? It would have locked the trailer brakes full, and the added weight would work to at least smooth out the acceleration.

Glad you're ok and no animals were involved. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable towing again if they fixed the frame. If they replace it, I'd probably be ok with it. Ultimately, it's up to you, and if you're satisfied with the outcome. Good luck.

    Thanks all

No estimate yet but I did speak with the shop a second time after they had a chance to look more thoroughly and they thought there was more damage than their first rough estimate. Obviously. They are also very confident they would be able to fix frame issues and stand by their work with a lifetime guarantee.

Argh. I adore this truck and if it can be safely and correctly fixed I will fight for it. Totaled is not a word I want to hear or consider. That might be the wrong approach but...ya know.

The jackass who hit me was actually a decent guy (in the moment). He admitted distraction, which pissed me off, and yes he stopped, his truck was bleeding out, not drivable. The no good cutting off left turner also stopped and I'm sure she felt like an ant when I ripped into her head to toe.

Just sucks all round! Thank you all for the replies!

I do not know. The truck and trailer brakes combined stopped me from hitting the twit woman in front of me. The movement felt like a very swift 90° turn. I wonder if it was the initial surge fwd of the trailer that cause the damage to my hitch or the jack knife slip down under the bumper. Sorry no technical terms here.

I am in British Columbia, will have to look into that. Not too familiar. Thank you
