I'm thinking about doing the Car Audio Factory single 10" sub enclosure for behind the rear seat in my 04 doublecab. I've read a bunch of old threads regarding this and speaker choices. Does anyone have any additional experience/suggestions before I pull the trigger?
I'm thinking the Pioneer TS SW2502S4 for the speaker. I'm aware I'll have to dremel out the back brace a bit to get it to fit.
I was also wondering if anyone has tried to stuff the JL Audio 10W3 D4 in one of these boxes. If so, how does it sound? Was it difficult to get into the box?
    Thanks in advance

I have had the CAF 10" box with the TS-SW2501S4 since 2009. About a year ago, I looked to see if there were more options available. I found that the Pioneer I used (TS-SW2501S4) is no longer being made and the Pioneer you listed (TS-SW2502S4) is the latest version. I noticed the older version is listed as having a 3" top mounting depth and the newer version lists 3+1/8" for depth. I also looked at the JL 10TW3-D4 you listed. It has a 3+1/4" depth listed. That seems like it is pushing it on depth. I would only buy that one if I could find it locally to test the depth with the box. I would love to hear from someone that has tried it. The other speaker I looked at was the Earthquake SWS-10X with a 2-11/16" depth. I came close to trying that one.
Overall I was happy with my box/speaker combo, but I could tell the very deep bass rolled off when I listened to songs that should have a really walloping bass line (the trade-off of using a very small box).
I eventually decided to keep the Pioneer I already had and try an Audiocontrol Epicenter. They call it a " bass restoration processor". I was skeptical at first, but after reading enough good reviews I bought it. It does a very good job of extending the deep bass on that speaker/box combo. The trade off of course is you are going to use a lot more speaker excursion when you dial up the bass. At the volumes I listen, I haven't noticed any bottoming out. It was a big improvement.

Matt (Mtucker) - your posts/info were the reason I even thought of going this route. Thanks for the reply as well as the original sharing.
Since the enclosure will take 2-3 days for them to build and a few more to ship, I ordered it today. It gives me a few days to research things while I'm still trying to decide which speaker to put into it. Do you think there is an additional 1/8 inch (or 1/4 inch) that can be ground of this box?

That is a tough question. It has been seven years since I installed the Pioneer, but the pictures I took show that the area that needed the most clearance was the brace that runs along the top of the box.
Here you see the box as I got it (the brace that gets hacked is near the black sealant near the top).

Then the clearing I did (near the black sealant..... on the left in this picture). I believe this was 99% of the clearance work.

The back side came pre-cleared out (CAF used a tool to thin down the wood where the magnet would be). I am just about positive I didn't have to thin the back of the box out. That means another 1/8" would probably be fine. Another 1/4"...... that would be getting darn close. I suppose it would be possible to use a spacer between the lip of the speaker mount and the box to give just a little more depth. That makes the front of the speaker come out closer to the back of the rear seat, but if you only made the spacer 1/4" I don't think there would be a problem.

I forgot about two other speakers I looked at.... the Alpine Type-R SWR-T10

She is pretty expensive and also has a 3.25" depth. It is rated for boxes as small as .25 ft^3.

I looked at the JL Audio 13TW5v2-2 (it is only 2+5/8" deep)

and of course a custom box to go with it. One stereo shop said they couldn't get anything larger than a 8 back there (I didn't bother telling them I currently had a 10). Another shop said to come back when their box builder was there, but after a night of sleeping on it I regained my sanity and decided a $500 speaker and $200-$300 box was a bit much. Also it is nice to have some storage room back there.

I ended up with the Pioneer TS SW2502S4 with the Car Audio Factory box. I actually cut the whole back out of the box where the speaker goes and recessed a sheet of sturdy aluminum covered with DynaMat on both sides. Gives about 6 cubic inches more room in the box. I can fit a 3.5" depth speaker in there.
I have to agree with you - The box is just too small to give high volume punchy bass. It sounds pretty nice when the it's just sitting in my driveway, but cranking it up while driving down the road it gets really boomy - and not in a good way. I really like having my entire back seat back after almost 13 years though (no big box Kicker sub taking up a 1/3 of it).
I'll try to update this thread as I tweak things.

Glad that it mostly worked out for you. When you say boomy do you mean the upper bass (80-100Hz) over powers the deeper bass? That is what I noticed and that agreed with the speaker plots for the Pioneer speaker in that volume box. If so, give her some bass boost in the 30-45Hz range. It really helped for me.
I briefly had a 12" sitting behind my driver's seat. Great bass, but it was a hassle with even four people in my truck. Clean and unobtrusive is nice.
