Nope.. is I making a chirp or tick? Tick is normal, chirp is not.

What is the chirp noise? I just started hearing this noise yesterday. When the engine revs a little it goes away. I even made a thread and no one knew what was happening. The "chirp" is exactly what it sounds like though.

It is most likely a high pressure fuel pump. The question remains whether it should actually make the chirping noise. Toyota says the sound is normal, but not all Tacomas develop the chirp.

I have been experiencing a loud ticking/rattling sound which gets louder with acceleration. While looking under the hood I noticed that the upper idler pulley was wobbling. After shutting off the engine, I grabbed the pulley and it had play and I could wiggle it. It was also very hot. On Friday, on my way to visit my brother, I took my 2016 Tacoma SR5 to a dealership on my route. They replaced the pulley and the new one did the same thing. No change, no difference with the noise. My rattle noise is quite loud, but I wouldn't call it a chirp. Should that pulley have play and wobble? And be hot to the touch? No 2016 Tacoma owners where I live (Adirondacks), so I have nothing to compare with. Nearest dealer is 60 miles away.

Pulley shouldn't wobble, noise may come back

I didn't know many ppl had that, how is the wobble compared to the other pulleys?
All pulleys wobble as everything has tolerances, but it's not that noticeable to most folks, in other words, its tolerable.
But as long as everything or all the other pulleys line up straight and correctly they don't wobble and your serpentine belt will last to its full.

You may want to ask your dealer to check pulleys for proper alignment.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

It is the high pressure pump,it is a chirp.
I am a master cert tech for another car line.I would have put a pump in it the first time I brought it in.
When I told them I was a tech and a shop foreman, they didn't want to hear it..
I am almost tempted to put one in myself

OK you got me, you made me go check mine out! lmaoo!
And yes I can verify it does have a little wobble to it, but pulley alignment is fine and the belt wear mark is right on center so I don't think there should be anything to worry about.
It's also at a good easy to replace location unlike the one at the bottom by the oil cooler, that one's not so good a location but no wobble at all.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Yes belt runs true but that wobbling make me wonder if the bolt just doesn't tighten up enough to stop it from walking around a bit. This would cause premature bearing failure in my opinion

I don't think so, I have seen much worst on other new vehicle makes.
I Hope we're not on that path with all the chirping noise b/s!

Either way I have confidence we'll work things out here at TW if it should ever get to that with our awesome Taco brotherhood

    Cheers!

I think other makes are/have experienced the noise on the high pressure fuel pump also. But the noise does not appear to be universal and comes under different conditions.

Looks like they need to improve on the manufacturing of these things as there appear to be some bugs.
