For some the title probably threw you a bit.

A little bit of info. I live in Thailand now. I was born and raised in California. I am over here running a factory. I sold my 2014 Taco TRD Sport 4x4 long Bed and as soon as landed here I bought a Toyota Hilux 4x4. Its been awesome comparing both the trucks.

With that said I thought I would do a build thread.

    Basic info on the truck.

2016 Hilux Revo "G", 4x4, 4 door. It is a special pearl white paint. It has a 2.8 liter Turbo Diesel motor and is equipped with Diff lock and traction control and a unique Eco control which basically lets you run around town in economy mode and with a flip of a switch you turn up the boost for more power.

Before I left and moved here I worked with the guys at Toytec and Total Chaos and bought a set up for the Hilux taking a chance it would all fit(sort of). A few of my Thai friends did some leg work and got me a ton of pics and dimensions. I brought over the Toytec Boss 2.5 set up and the UCA by Total Chaos. I also brought over my PIAA RS600 HID Shock lamps, Warn winch and my TRD Wheels.

Here are some pics of the truck as received new in April

The 2.8 Liter Turbo Diesel motor (I see lots of free power once I get to playing with the Turbo...That's later on)

OK, First up was the lift kit from Toytec. Before I moved to Thailand I worked with Toytec. Of course this was a Hilux and not a Tacoma but knowing Toyota they were not going to make a special suspension truck for Hilux versus Tacoma. Or least that was the belief. It bolted right in

Toytec Boss 2.5 Coil over and Total Chaos UCA's in place. The rear is a new re arched spring pack and Bilstein shocks.

Next add on was the Rival aluminum Skid plates. These are well made from plate aluminum. The truck came with some stamped steel anemic deals that are good if you run over a balloon or something but not much more. LOL!

Now for the Warn Zeon 8000-S winch. I went with the Synthetic because I did not want the bulky fairlead rollers out front that come with the metal cable. VVP4x4 modified the original Warn carrier so we could put this behind the factory bumper. Fits really well. Took some trimming near the radiator support and the bumper and plastic insert. The winch holder is both bolted and welded in.

I apologize these are sort of after the fact pics. I did not take any of the install as it was all of us holding stuff in place.

I brought over a set of TRD wheels.

I got the TRD wheels and BFG KR2 Mud terrain tires all set up and we mounted them on. Here is a before and after pic. Now it has the lift kit and tires and wheels on.

Before with factory wheels and tires

After with Larger BFG tires and the TRD wheels

The other thing I did was take off the silly step running boards the factory gives all trucks over here. I am not fond of running boards at all. it really cleans the truck up.

Next up I am in process of fab'ing up a bracket to install these out front. I am not yet decided on the design yet. Originally I was going to buy and install the ARB winch bumper out front but opted not to. Maybe later but I doubt it. I can install these lights and make it clean (I think)

What part of Thailand? I've been to Pattaya Beach before when I was in the military. Place is crazier than Vegas!

I can't wait to see how much more power can be extracted from that diesel.

Does the Hilux have the same bed cleat rail as the Tacoma?

So I took the truck out for a bit of wheeling in my nearby race ooops I mean rice paddy and found I had a tire clipping contact on hard turn ins. Back to the house I went to do some "Trimming" as we have all done.

As you can see I had all the proper tools: Vise Grips, Die grinder, Hammer etc LOL!. I basically had to take out about 2 inches on the inside of the fender to make plenty of clearance. I took it back out and problem solved.

Well I have to say I prefer the turbo diesel more. The 4.0 has more HP......however the Diesel Tq in low gear is fun stuff. Plus when I turn the boost up soon with the turbo this should really make some power. The curb weight on a truck here is way less than the States Tacoma. Here does not have all the DOT rules plus less sound deadening material and no smog crap. From what I can see the Tacoma weighed nearly 700 lbs more.

Well I live in North Thailand in the mountains. Interestingly I have been here on and off for 10 years working and have never been to Pattaya. Hope this doesn't offend you but Pattaya is really a seedy place. Kind of like going to the projects in the US except the women are pretty(well some aren't women, they are lady boys LOL) Great place I suppose for guys to go air it out but just never appealed to me.

Me too. I am investigating a Chip called Race Chip. They have 2 versions. The one I am looking at they claim it adds 35%. We will see. I doubt I will have access to a chassis dyno to verify it however. I should have the chip middle of August.

As for the bed, No. In fact the bed is still a steel bed and not that ABS plastic bed equipped on the Tacoma. This has metal cleats in 6 places on the inside.

Your butt dyno should be good enough to make all of us gas powered dudes jealous enough. Unbelievably jealous, actually.

Damn!! I was really hoping our bed racks would be compatible over there. That could open up a huge market for us. Do you have any pic's of the inside of the bed?

Nice truck! I always liked those. Thanks for the thread. My wife and I spent a month in Thailand a few years ago and loved it. Great country, and friendly people.

Here is another cool thing. I have the parts just have not installed yet. Over here they have a SUV called the Toyota Fortuner. Pretty nice ride quite frankly. What is nice they come with 4 wheel disc brakes. This bolts right onto the Hilux. I just haven't had time to install it as I am working alot. I will definitely update pics when I get some time to add more junk to my truck.
