Got my leaf springs replaced yesterday due to a recall notice I received in the mail. I was told that the "master mechanic" heard a faint whining noise and is accusing the idle, tension, and power steering pulleys after taking a closer look. Stealership was wanting $560+ before sales tax. Fuck that. Anybody have similar problems and/or solutions? I'm thinking it's just some bad bearings, but I just want more opinions before i buy any replacement parts.

Rock auto has a kit with the 3 idlers, tensioner w/pulley and a new belt for around $170.
Thats what I did last fall, took my friend and I about 3hrs to replace all, tensioner is kinda a bitch to do but worth it to know its all new.
Search on here, theres a writeup on how to do it.

Mechanical things do wear out !!

You are lucky most places would not even bring it to your attention when doing warranty work .

You can keep running the engine till it gets worse making it easier to diagnosis .

Figure out just what is failing and fix it.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
ASAP I'd at least first replace the tensioner pulley and not the whole tensioner (I think it's only if the original pulley grenades and welds itself together that you're forced to replace the whole tensioner so I'd at least do that one then get to the idlers asap but I could be wrong.

What I meant was while your springs were being replaced that was warranty work was it not.

The Mil could be on the tires could have cords showing . They hand you your keys and say your good to go.

Most times if the tensioner bearing seizes it will break the bracket much more expensive then just a bearing

Get a stethoscope from an auto parts store. Just place the probe CAREFULLY on each bolt on the pulleys with the engine running. You will be able to hear which bearing is making more noise than the others. Works for alternator and other pumps too.
