Performance wise: it eliminates the last 2 cats and is also mandrel bent so there's no restriction in flow . But the main reason why I got it, it tucks higher to clear my skid plate ,making the bottom of the truck smoother when sliding across obstacles.

 

I think the general consensus is that the only way to make the 1GR not sound like a 3 cylinder is the full URD spec u. Equal length headers and Y with their 3" system. I remember Dennis had it but I never got to hear it. He said it was a little loud when you got on it, though. Without that, I think the v6 sounds like crap and I wanted a little more flow and to keep the noise down. Went with the URD Y, and Magnaflow muffler to replace stock. Went with the biggest one I could find, straight through, full stainless, 5 by 11 with 22" body, PN 12586 (under $100). Pretty quiet, still sounds weird at WOT IMO. But I can live with it.
TRD exhaust is another quiet option, but I don't think its straight through. Made by Bosal.
Here's what Gadget said about trd exhaust:

TRD changed their cat-back system. It is made by the same company that makes the OEM exhaust that is already on your truck. It looks exactly the same except the muffler is smaller and there is TRD on the tip. It is all one long piece like the stock one.

Would be interested in knowing what year the "New" TRD cat back came out. Back when i had the XR, my friend had headers, deleted all cats and the TRD cat back ststem. At night when we "drive" around, flame would come out of his pipe . When I first bought the XR, one of the first mods I did was headers. The stock muffler couldn't handle the amount of exhaust now passing through it. It would make a horrible loose ,internal rattle on wfo throttle, which is why i put a magnaflow on that truck.

 

I wonder if its cause of RIMPAC? Never been up to peacock flats so I never noticed if it was during the same time. I hope its only temporary cause I really wanted to go. Just went to Kaena Point yesterday and it was fun but didn't quite meet my expectations with a lot of the areas blocked off now.

 

I'm pretty sure it is related to RIMPAC because that is about when it closed. Just have to wait until it opens again.

 

that's what I thought too. I think there was a notice right before RIMPAC that said it was closing. is that still going on? I have no idea. bring back the super ferry. choke places for you guys to flex it out over here

 

yea RIMPAC is till Aug 4. yup I wish they would bring the super ferry back too. I heard Kauai and Big Island got some good places to go.

 

I'm almost positive its cause of RIMPAC. RIMPAC is over next week I think. I heard they are thinking of putting restrictions on KP

 

The only restriction left is to lock the gate for good.

 

I think gadget wrote that in response to someone claiming the TRD exhaust was made by Borla. Idk when the changeover happened, he wrote that in 2011. I wasn't even on TW yet!

I'm having a special this weekend... Free muffler bearing inspections... If defects are found I will produce an estimate for repair using only premium muffler bearings

 

Yea... that "incident" was a good one to learn from... wish tgat truck was 4wd... would still have that...

 

I still got to do my CMC, just a little low on funds right now.
