I think bull bars and aftermarket headlights look cheap, should I blame the installer? I just don't like that look. Regardless of how good the painter was, most people even when doing a good plastidiping job elect to paint the wheel, lug nuts, and centercap all black, which I think looks cheap. Even the best OEM manufacturers do not use a single tone to cover all three of those surfaces. Thats why I think that plastidip application looks cheap.

Secondly, I have painted wheels with other products and I have liked the results better.

What Chemdawg is saying is the plastidip doesnt look cheap if applied right. Your saying you dont like a blacked out look.

I just want readers of our forum to have correct information to make choices.
Seeing a bad plastidip job or not approving or the color combo someone used has NOTHING to do with plastidip looking cheap as an overall product.

Not sure what.. bull bars and headlights you mentioned have to do with anything..but say, you installed them upside down then made posts telling everyone the product sucked
Then it be about the same idea.

IMO people can and should do what ever they want or feel is good for their vehicle as long as its safe and legal. TW is here to help people make their own choices and all the members try to help/aid with experience ad wisdom. I see a lot of things that I wouldn't do to my own truck but I don't see the need to tell people their choices look cheap or the products they use are cheap unless they are poorly made. But everyone has there on opinions there is a huge majority of people that have plasti dipped wheels bumpers you name it.

Derped my wheels 3 years ago and they still look new. 6 light coats and you wouldn't know the difference between them and any other semigloss black wheels. I didn't paint the lug nuts though. Went with black Gorilla lug nuts instead. Coming up on a new set of tires soon so I'll have to touch them up. If they look bad, I'll just strip and repaint. Totally worth $30 in paint.

Never understood plasti dipping your hood a different color? Now it just looks like you replaced the hood and can't afford to paint it.

I didn't get into too much detail, as I was only pointing out plastidip can look much like paint if done correctly.
My wife's car is not hood only. She has trunk, roof and hood all painted the same color changing purple.
You may not ever understand why we chose to do paint jobs like this, and I'll probably never understand why a truck would get stretched into an ugly limo looking 4door. But to each their own.
Im Just here to post my actual, personal experiences with plastidip.

    @Caprizzy
Hardest part for me is Texture.
No wet sanding no fixing. So once you put on the first few coats, which you should spray thin. The Following coats you can get better coverage and spray thicker.
It's not like typical paint, you can apply much more before it runs. That's the tough part.
*Spraying too thin- it will have a bedliner type texture.
*Spray too much- it will run and you will have to peel and restart
-But if you can find that happy medium where your Spraying just enough.. the dip will literally self-level, melting into a smooth finish. You end up using ALOT of dip
And you had better :thumbsup:because someday when you do peel it..The thicker it is the easier it will be to peel.

Plastidip Typically a flat or matte finish.
Spray cans- have a glossifier plastidip to achieve gloss look.
spray gun- you can buy topcoat which is high gloss clear dip. From www.dipyourcar.com

Lastly when done and cured use dipcoat to make it not feel like rubber and it protects from scratches. Like wax for plastidip
