    Hi everyone,

I am looking at purchasing a used 3rd gen OEM roof rack and am having a hard time finding any info on if it will fit my 2nd gen. It appears visually to look the exact same, but the last two digits on the model numbers are different. Any info or insight would greatly help!

    2nd gen model number: PT278-35130
    3rd gen model number: PT278-35140

They are the same. Toyota changed P/N at some point last year. I wanted to trade my 2015 for someone else drip rails but that didn't get anywhere. LMK if you'd be interested. I'd give you a great deal but you would have to ship your drip rails first.

Thank you for great feedback! NM4553 I appreciate you reaching out to sell your roof rack, however I got a smoking deal off a guy local in my area. We were both unsure if it would fit so that is why I asked.

That's an awesome find. I go back and forth loving and hating the damn thing. I think it makes the truck look beefier but I have no use for it - DCLB FTW.

Let me know if you had to replace the clips that hold the drip guards on when you install, if you remember. If not, no biggie.

I wanted to reengage with this thread. I'm looking at getting the OEM rack for my second gen but it says it only fits 2017 and newer. If I'm not mistaken the holes should match the same on the second and third gens, right? I know Prinsu's rack fits second and third gens the same.

I just installed on my 2017. I believe the holes are the same. Couple of tips to save you massive frustration…. Go swap out the crap hardware with stainless steel. They are all M6 metric with varying lengths.

Silicone the threads to avoid leaks. And around the crap foam gasket it comes with.

There is a nut plate at the bottom of the passenger side swing arm…. Be very careful when you drop the final bolt in to secure it as it can knock the plate out and you have to take things apart to retrieve it.

Also, save the original weather stripping. It costs a lot to replace.

To follow up for anyone wanting the stock OEM rack on a second gen Tacoma... It fits. I talked to a service manager and they said it would fit (despite saying it won't), so I bought it to try it out. The part numbers are different but it's exactly the same.

There aren't any gaps. You may need to bend the bracket a bit in the front so everything is flush but it's super easy.
