Spoke with customer service and they want me to take a look and see if the lid may be warp or if it's definitely the lock not making a tight and snug close... either way, they promise to make it right.... they have very attentive and helpful customer service...

SOLD the Tacoma. Landcruiser life now.
I have play in my lid for sure (more than I thought it would have) but not that much. I put a flashlight in the fridge and can barely see the light when I move the lid up and down. The lid is of course always down and I have a cover coming, so I'm not too worried. Plus it performed great on a recent very hot trip!

Hey everyone! We wanted to chime in on the issue regarding light. We did get the calls from the two guys mentioned above. We were obviously concerned as this was/is the 1st we have heard of the issue. So we did what any responsible company would do, we ran some tests!

In fact, my office is currently full of each model of the portables that we stock. We placed a flashlight in each of them and placed them in our dark conference room. We saw small specs of light which is to be somewhat expected because...well, it's light! But we were not convinced that was enough. So we plugged them in and ran tests on the air. We did not detect any mass air leaks or temperature losses on the units. The seals are all factory fresh and show no cracks anyplace.

To say we are confident in the products would be an understatement. Having said that though, we are very intent on taking care of our customers- especially you all here in the Toyota family. If anyone is experiencing something unusual we always ask that you reach out to us. But I suspect the vast majority of you are not going to see the same issues as mentioned or experienced. We thank those of you who brought this to our attention, and to those of you that mentioned how great the products are working for you.

We love to know you have our backs and are looking out for us on all fronts, being the reporting of issues or the reporting of quality. It's how we continue to serve you the best way we can.

    Regards

    TF Staff and Management.

Before I say anything further, let me say I already know that this is going to sound like one of those cheesy radio ads or something complete with those wavy arm inflatable guys. But I swear this is true!!!

We shut down our distribution center in Arizona. As a result our warehouse here in KY is full of that inventory. And we need to move some of it out of here. They had an abundance of the smaller units, the TB15,18 and 31. So that is what we have to get rid of. I got permission to mark them down which actually makes them more than affordable. Here is the offer:

    TB15:

MSRP $449, website price $349, your price $336.75

    TB18

MSRP $479, website price $379, your price $359.25

    TB31

MSRP $499, website price $399, your price $374.25

The offer is ONLY for these models. We will run it for a month so...September 12th, 2016 at 8AM when I get into the office. Just like last time we will offer you all FREE SHIPPING on them! Also like last time, we will do the processing of the payment manually so just enter the word TACOMA in the comment box at checkout and we will apply the discount here in house. Feel free to share this. We really do need to get rid of these things. I am more than happy to post a picture of the warehouse right now (no waving arm inflatables, but plenty of overstock!). Here is the website

If you have any questions, let us know. I answer messages from here all day.

As far as the ones that have a defective/faulty latch go, very much like the one I got and depicted in the video: leaving the fridge alone will allow the lid to make the proper seal (like just letting seat in your conference room). The problem in mine is that the lid/latch is so loose that with the fridge mounted somewhere in a truck it will rattle open and close and that is certainly not efficient, nor is how they are designed to be.

Friday night and all Day Saturday I used my friend's TB51 that's is about 18 months old, and that lid is super snug once the latch is locked. So perhaps and I really hope for, that the one you guys tested is in good working order.

That's frustrating. We have actually continued random spot checks since this was brought up and we have not had any issues. The refrigerator unit you are referencing in this post, is it secured or is it getting knocked around by every bump? Non-secured units can have their latches shaken more, which of course will loosen them over time.

I have not install it in the vehicle yet... but from the video you can see how the lid lifts up with zero effort even though the latch is in the locked possition. And like I said before, this is NOT the 1st TB51a I've seen/used and the one @Wheelspinner has is super snug once the latch clicks in the lock possition

Oh absolutely. We appreciate that you brought it to our attention. It has made sure we continue to deliver the highest quality product to our customers which is why we are now spot checking even after running the tests we have on the units in our warehouse. I am pretty sure you already contacted our customer service department. I trust they have handled this issue for you?

As a matter of fact I did contact customer service and I'm being told of a possible improvement on the lids and possible getting a new one at the end of August... this due to Italy currently being on their long holiday break....

ah yes, aside from the food being amazing, the long break is yet another reason we are jealous of our Italian counterparts!
