Take a picture of the new bolt next to the skid plate bolt when you get a chance. I'll be shocked if they are actually the same thread pitch...

I drill and tap things everyday as a machinist and it doesnt matter too much what side you go at it from, once you get it started straight the tap does all the hard work basically even self aligns itself. Once you cut new/fresh threads and clean up the rest of them put it all together with some blue loctite and torque them. If it holds the torque value you're fine even if the first couple threads arent the best.

Looks to me like the tapered threads on the skid plate bolt were holding it on not the actual threads. This caused the larger threads to flatten as the bolt went in. just my thought.

I'm thinking you're right, hopefully the spindle threads survived without too much true damage.

Yeah I agree that does sound likely. Putting it in with a breaker bar (only thing we had) didn't help.

Lol The clips holding the nuts for the roof rack broke. The previous owner obviously searched for them a bit because there are drops of blood inside the headliner under the sharp plastic.

I usually slice my hand on body sheet metal, or a wrench slips and my hand goes flying into something sharp. It happens.

I'm getting my shit together this weekend. The truck is a mess when it comes to organization. Tow straps are everywhere. I don't know what tools are still in there. We did like 4 weeks of trips in a row and used a lot of recovery gear. I'm staying home this weekend to put stuff pack together. I also got the Plano box for the roof. I wanna easier access to straps (home she still fits in the garage with it on) Going to install volt meters in the cab for my dual batteries and install a solar setup on my trailer.

I'm going to order a Plano box soon. After this ordeal last weekend I learned I always need to keep tools on me.

I have to many tools for the plano box. I have a big steel box full of parts and large tools in the bed. They I also have a tool box full of all my other tools. Plus a couple crescent wrenches in my cup holders.

If i remember right thats a funky sized bolt (want to say its actually a flange bolt if i remember right) but i want to say its a M12x1.25 thread which is not a real common size so you might have to order a tap for it.

Course im going off complete memory so could be thinking of 1) another vehicle 2)another bolt on our trucks lol

I assure you they make metric tap and die kits also. If it is in fact an m12x1. 25 he will probably have to order it. It's a very odd ball size, I needed one recently and checked every store here locally and couldn't find one. Ordered mine from Amazon.
