Yes, the injector pressure is high because it needs to overcome cylinder pressure. However, once the fuel expands to fill the cylinder, the pressure drops off dramatically. The cat would never see fuel pressure. The only way for the cat to be damaged is the amount of unburnt fuel heating up in the cat, and it would be the same amount of fuel with FI vs MPI (perhaps even less fuel with FI).

The issue is the dealer claims that the cat was damaged due to the CKP sensor failing. I call BS in the first place anyways, but being that DI is a bit of a newer tech for me and I haven't dealt with it much, it is open game. The thing is though, I am somewhat still suspect of that "diagnose" the dealer made claiming the cat was damaged. That simply does not happen. Your post only solidifies my thought process.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
Was you truck built in Texas (I'm guessing) or Mexico?

Does anyone know the best way to try and get reimbursed for the expenses I have related to mine failing 86 miles from the nearest town? I was told a customer service rep would be calling but have yet to hear anything. I feel Toyota owes me for the second tow truck (to get my passengers) which was $350 and the last minute night in the hotel when the truck broke down the second time. I also missed a 12hr shift at work but I'm willing to let that slide. This truck breakdown cost me more than $1k and a lot of headaches. I vote recall!

Well my new CPS showed up today. This bad boy is going in my toolkit incase of failure in a remote area with no cell service, tow trucks, or Toyota's shit service. I'll make a video of the install should it ever go out.

    Nice, wtg!
I have a feeling you won't need it, but better to have and not need, than need and not have

    Cheers!

Any branding or logos on the part that shows who makes it? Denso or somebody else?

A couple of weeks ago, I had found a drawing that showed the location of the CPS. I want to heat shield it. I got the material, and now I can't find that damn drawing again. Can anyone tell me exactly where the CPS is located?

Mine went out at 5,000 miles. Replaced it along with the cat converter because it also went bad due to the sensor. It spent 2 weeks in the shop. Now, 10,000 miles later, it is still running well. So I assume they put in the right sensor.

Only time will tell and as long as no '17's with 10k+ CPS sensor failures show up, then we can close that page.

I think they should reimburse also. They luckily towed my truck for free to the dealership- 23 miles away and gave me free rental car and then a free loaner- two weeks total. Time lost from work should be reimbursed also for such a BS deal. My 2013 Rav4 is also giving me trouble at 50K- bad torque converter. I've lost many hours of work taking it into the dealership. Waiting on parts. It might need a whole new tranny also. What's up with Toyota anymore? I'm losing faith in them. I had an 07 Taco last 150K with absolutely no problems other than I replaced the timing belt at 110K and it still looked brand new.

You got lucky on your breakdown as Toyota care only covers free tow for up to 25 miles to nearest the dealer, the rest is on your dime, and that's b/s.
There's no reason why Toyota can't make top reliable drivetrain component parts, GM has better reliability as of now as far as breakdowns go, they just make lousy cheap parts for everything else.

I just ordered one of these sensors from my dealer since my truck is an early build - 10/15. They came down a little bit on price to make it close to what I could get online. I am going to install it this weekend after confirming it has the grid pattern on the bottom and is the updated version. Dealer said there were plenty in stock at the Los Angeles warehouse FWIW.
