Yeah, I'm running the 6112's with the stock rear 4600 Bilsteins right now. The valving/dampening difference between the two is pretty noticeable on speed bumps and potholes. The 6112's float over everything, while the 4600s just get bounced all around.

To be completely honest you'd probably be fine running the 4600s for as long as you want, but I hated having a super smooth front strut with a weak, bouncy rear strut, so I've already bought the 5160 to go on the rear.

Also the 5160 allows for 1.5" more travel. I doubt that'd make or break you on the trail, but every little bit helps.

alright. I'm on the fence still. Waiting for prices from headstrong and also someone here selling 6112s with about 6k miles for a good price. All your info has been super helpful

image.jpg I decided to add a Icon 3leaf AAL so I had to change out my existing rear fox shocks and went with the 5160's witch will allow for the 1.5 lift. So far they're awesome. They work excellent with the 6112's and should have purchased them with the 6112. I still need to go back in and add the AAL.

If $$ is a little tight you could run 5100 rears. You have two options depending on your lift. They are an improvement over stock for sure for a fraction of 5160's. Just saying mine have been on for 5 years and going strong.

    Awesome!

Did you do the install yourself? If so, how long did it take and do you have any tips on install?

I got mine in this week, but it will probably be next weekend before I can get them installed:

By the way, these things are much nicer in person than they are in photos. It surprised me how big the reservoir was.

Nice!! With some interruptions and it being about 100* out, and doing it by myself about -1.5hrs. The bottom shock mounts are tight, and getting your hand up inside the frame to start the resi mount bracket bolts is tedious. I used blue thread locker on all the resi bracket hardware. It went pretty smooth.

I did the Drivers side first, and once I removed the existing shock I installed the new hard brake line clamp, and the brake line spacer. Also remember these shocks have different part#'s for left and right location.image.jpg

    Awesome, thanks.

What shocks were you running before the 5160's and how'd the ride change? I'd imagine a pretty noticeable improvement?

My main reason for ditching the stock yellow Bilsteins is because the 6112's have such smooth dampening in the front while the stock rear Bilsteins feel stiff and just bounce all over the place.

I had the Fox 2.0 series and they were for 0-1" of lift. Since I'm adding the 1.5" AAL I had to up grade to a compatible shock or I would have kept the Foxes. I'm happy with ride comfort from both shocks.

I have a 2009 dcsb 4x4 and Was thinking of buying from headstrong either the bilstein 5100/ 887/ Dakar/ LR UCA for 3 inch lift and 285 70 17 ko2 tires. Or getting the performance kit with 6112/5160/ Dakar. I wanted to get a 3 " lift so that I would have room for the 285's. Not sure if this kit would get me 3" and if I could use 285s. Also not sure if I would need and UCA with that kit either. I am definitely a newbie, but I want to do it right the first time with little regrets. Any help or suggestions would be helpful

I don't want to go cheap. I do want a good ride and a good lift and do it right the first time.
I was just seeing if it's worth it to go with the 6112 and if I could get 3" with that and use a UCA.
Or if I can only achieve 3" with the 5100/887 and I can get the UCA for the same price as the 6112 without UCA

    5100/887/ Dakar and UCA=$1600 (and 3")

6112/ Dakar without UCA =$1600 (and unsure if 3" and the need for UCA?)

Can 6112 setup get 3" and therefore need a UCA?

People have been getting a little more than advertised with these but you'd still probably need a half inch too plate spacer for driver and a quarter inch on passenger with these on top notch to approach a full 3 inches. I guess you'd lose a little travel maxing them out that way. You'd probably still need uca's though. I'm right under 2" and my truck wanders. My guess is you'd still rub somewhere with 285s with either set up, but I'm on 32's so no experience there n

These don't clunk. My radflo coilovers were pretty clunky, haven't noticed these at all though.

^ agreed, this is the same for me except I'm not wandering. I'm right at 2" lift now on the 3rd setting no sway bar. Personally I wouldn't go full 3" because at that height there's not much left before topping out and clunking when that happens. 2.5" you would be okay and maybe not need UCA's. I was running 2.5" for a few years on 5100's with no issues. For a while I bumped it to 3" with top spacers and didn't like it, but I didn't replace UCA's so that would be necessary. My 5100's just starting going out and making noise so I upgraded to 6112's. Love them.

so I'm thinking the same. I have brand new 885/5100s in the garage waiting to be installed. Waiting on ucas since its close to 3in on my prerunner. About to ditch that idea and go with 6100s/5160 at 2.5 in or less. No UCA. Close to the same total price maybe a little more.

Drove back from getting them in last night. They feel great.
Did take out the sway bar and rotated tires at the same time, so am still getting used to the different feel in the front end.
Hoping to get out to some terrain that I am familiar with later today.
    :bikewhoops:

Will say that the shocks are very beefy. They really brought the clearances right to the edge of possibility in some spots.
They went together very well with the stock top hats.
